Mignolet

Great goalies are like great central defenders, you only notice them when they're not there.

The only reason he's a goalie is because he was the school spaz who couldn't kick a ball, but the teachers insisted he play because his mum was a governor or some shit.

Reina was a better fit for Liverpool regardless of wages. You never trade downwards and that's precisely what we did with Mignolet.

Even taking into account the difference in wages from a purely footballing point of view Reina fitted into the style Rodgers wanted us to play far better than the twat that replaced him. Reina once played outfield in a friendly, his greatest strength was his ability to read the game and use the ball well. Mignolet couldn't read the very hungry caterpillar and his use of the ball would embarrass a toddler.

Replacing Reina with Mignolet made absolutely no sense whatsoever apart from on a financial spreadsheet.

We finished 7th, 6th, 8th and 7th in his last 4 seasons here and then 2nd in our first season without him. Of all the things to pin our decline on, putting it on getting rid of a massively underperforming keeper on enormous wages is a huge stretch (a far bigger stretch than he was capable of in his last few years in goal here).

We might as well have given Glen Johnson another £100k+ a week contract if we're crying about letting Reina go, after all, there was a risk that his replacement could have been even worse than the appalling value for wages he was offering.

Suarez is the best player in the world, never once stopped putting a shift in and almost drove us to one of the greatest achievements in the history of the club. Reina effectively downed tools and got fat.

Yes but he did take the piss out of us which is your point.

I don't share the view that Reina downed tools, he did have a poor 12-18 months under Hodgson & Kenny but that was the same for every single Liverpool player with the exception of Lucas & Suarez.

To single Reina out is totally unfair.

I have no idea what this post means. Where have I pinned our decline on Mignolet replacing Reina?

Reina was a better fit for Liverpool and the way we play than Mignolet could ever hope to be, that is a fact. And that is all I'm saying.

I called Suarez out on it at the time but I forgave him because I'm a fickle cunt.

What are you trying to say here, that replacing Pepe with Mig was a good decision because we finished second one season?

We finished 6th last season and we're barely top 10 this season and Mig's still here. So what does that say about him?

Nah, he's got to start at Wembley.

I'd then take him off within 60 seconds of the kick off, the shit cunt.

We could lose the coin toss and they might shoot from the kick-off. I'd pick him then drop him before the teams come out of the tunnel.

Same, I've said all along he was never the problem and he'd improve, but this is beyond repair now. Maybe he can be a top keeper elsewhere, but he just melts under the spotlight at this club.

By the way, always interesting to hear David James talk about him, and he's a massive fan, think he's got amazing potential. Strange.

David James is fucking dumb. We're talking about a guy who's turning 28 next month, having played close to 200 games in english football, not some 21 year old kid. We already know he's shit.

Yeah, there's certainly no trend there in Reinas figures that suggest he was going downhill.

And while we're at it, let's ignore the centrebacks Reina had in front of him, and wonder how much worse he'd have been with what we've got now.

Why's Reina even being discussed? He was a very good keeper in his prime, but it was the right time to let him go considering he was flirting with other clubs and his form was dwindling. The fact that Mignolet was a terrible replacement and is still no where near Pepe's level doesn't mean it wasn't the right decision to get rid of Pepe, it just means we once again made a poor decision in the transfer market.

Weird how Reina has conceded 19 goals in 24 games for Napoli this season and is on track to win the title. Really strange.
