After Christmas Reina was fine, nowhere near his best, but adequate.

Mignolet has been fucking shocking from the minute he has arrived.

 

After Christmas in Reina's last season he had nine clean sheets from 21 games. Does anyone have confidence in Mignolet achieving similar any time soon?

For a team supposedly based on a lot of analytics and statistical analysis, our transfer committee sure is bad at reading statistics.  And that's on the easiest player to statistically analyse by far, the goalkeeper.

After replacing Benitez with Hodgson it wasn't really that hard to believe.  We've a habit of going for the obvious inferior option in near enough all circumstances be it transfers, managers (until Klopp thank fuck) even a Stand rebuild when a Stadium would have been the better option.

Yep, and with Mignolet before him we were linked with a load of goalies that were good with the ball at their feet then we ended up with someone the complete opposite! Summed up the mess that is our transfer committee, system whatever nicely!!

Just because Mignolet has turned out to be shite doesn't mean we should have kept paying Reina £110k a week to tamely fall over and watch shots roll past him. Anyone who thinks his performances here in his last 2 seasons justified him being one of the best paid keepers in the world needs their head checking.

Reina was a better fit for Liverpool regardless of wages. You never trade downwards and that's precisely what we did with Mignolet.

Even taking into account the difference in wages from a purely footballing point of view Reina fitted into the style Rodgers wanted us to play far better than the twat that replaced him. Reina once played outfield in a friendly, his greatest strength was his ability to read the game and use the ball well. Mignolet couldn't read the very hungry caterpillar and his use of the ball would embarrass a toddler.

 

Replacing Reina with Mignolet made absolutely no sense whatsoever apart from on a financial spreadsheet.

I've defended him plenty of times but he can get to fuck.

Same, I've said all along he was never the problem and he'd improve, but this is beyond repair now. Maybe he can be a top keeper elsewhere, but he just melts under the spotlight at this club.

 

By the way, always interesting to hear David James talk about him, and he's a massive fan, think he's got amazing potential. Strange.
