Fulltime. Liverpool 0 United 1.

Took us until the last 10 minuted of the game to test their keeper.

We didn't do enough with the ball, with United quite content to keep us at arms length, before hitting us on the break.

Liverpool U18s will start the 2014-15 season with a trip to Stoke City on Saturday, August 16.

The game will kick-off at 11am BST at Clayton Wood training ground. The first home game of the new campaign for Neil Critchley's charges will see Derby County visit Kirkby on Saturday, August 23.
The new format for the 2014-15 season will see play-off matches against southern based teams start in February.
In total, 24 clubs compete in the Barclays U18 Premier League, with each of the clubs having applied for Category One status. There are 15 clubs from the Barclays Premier League and nine clubs from the Skybet Championship.
The 24 clubs are split into two regional groups, north and south. Clubs will play each opposing club in their own regional group twice, both home and away.
The champions and other final positions will be determined via a play-off which will start in mid-February.

(I'll be pleasantly surprised if we're able to play on seven consecutive Saturdays in January and February, but it can only be a good thing that there is at least an effort to get the league games played early and avoid an end-of-season fixture pile-up.)

I see we've opted out of this European u-21 competition. Would have thought we had more than enough players to compete.

Are you referring to the below article in the Guardian? Seems strange that we'd not be involved.

A fair portion of last season's under 21 side should be eligible for the Under 19 Champions League. You can only assume that the club would be concerned about over playing some of the younger lads who run out for the under 21's on a consistent basis.

The Premier League is planning a new Under-21 tournament this season involving other clubs in Europe – but claims the competition is not a rival to the Football Association chairman Greg Dyke’s ambitions for a B league involving top-flight reserve sides.

The plan, which the Premier League is hoping will receive Uefa’s blessing, would see eight Under-21 sides from England’s top-flight play against eight others from countries including Spain and Germany as well as the Scottish champions Celtic.

In May, Dyke’s England Commission proposed a B league to operate below League Two aimed at giving young players more match experience – something that the new Premier League competition also aims to do.

Premier League communications director Dan Johnson said its proposal had been under consideration for several years and was unrelated to Dyke’s scheme.

Johnson said: “We do believe it would be good for the development of talented young players but it is not an answer to the B league proposal at all. It is something we have wanted to do for a number of years.

“We are keen to work with Uefa on what we think is a good development opportunity and there has been a lot of support from clubs on the continent.

“Our view is that an Under-21 competition with a significant programme of international fixtures at lower age levels is a good opportunity to expose players to this level of competition. We now need to work with Uefa for their agreement.”

That could present some problems, however, as Uefa already has its own Under-19 tournament that shadows the Champions League. But the Premier League believes that the age difference of the two competitions would allow them to co-exist.

The Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said earlier this year that a B league would damage the football pyramid that currently exists in the English game while the Football League has also opposed it.

The new Premier League competition would see 16 clubs split into four groups of four, with the winners and runners-up going through to quarter-finals which would be played over two legs. Up to three over-age players would also be allowed.

The clubs that finished in the top eight of the Premier League’s under-21 development league would take part – apart from Liverpool who decided not to take up the opportunity, allowing West Ham in instead.

The clubs are: Chelsea, Fulham, Leicester, Manchester City, Manchester United, Southampton, Sunderland and West Ham.

The eight clubs from Europe are: Celtic, Athletic Bilbao, Benfica, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Schalke, Porto, PSV Eindhoven and Villarreal.

Maybe we opted out cause we already have the youth champions league event to play in

Maybe. But our biggest problem has usually been in bridging the chasm between "reserve" level standards and first team level.

Know a few on here go to Marine, so sharing this.

Few departures, made some money on Coady, Paez and Smith off on loan as well.

Guess we'll see a few more of the 19/20s off on loan too, probably the main reason we pulled out of the U21 tournament.

Not seen anything about Brad Smith going out on loan. Where's he headed? He should certainly benefit from some first team football.

EDIT: A quick Google search had Smith linked with a loan move to Swindon, but I can't find anything to say it has been completed.

http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/168467-reds-confirm-smith-loan

Liverpool have confirmed that Brad Smith has joined League One side Swindon Town on a youth loan.

The 20-year-old made his first team debut last season when he appeared as a substitute in the 2-1 defeat by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on December 29, 2013.

The Australian born left-back is an England youth international and he was called up to the U21 squad for the Three Lions at the end of last season.

Smith will team up with his former Academy teammate, goalkeeper Tyrell Belford at the County Ground.

Reserves vs. Sunderland :

Ward, Randall, Stewart, Jones, Williams, Rossiter, Lussey, Brannagan, Ojo, McLaughlin, Peterson.

Subs : Vigouroux, Maguire, Wilson, Trickett-Smith, Yesil.

The last time I watched Lussey, that was about 2 years ago, on Liverpool TV, he reminded me of Xabi.. So we'll smash em.
