He played well for half the game. Unfortunately he is still the weak link in the team. The opposition knows he ain't mobile, and we are susceptible to counter attacks through the middle.

If he can pick it up, then lets see, but I think this may be our Achilles heel this season.

I don't know about that. I think english fans in general focus too much on mobility, pace, strength and other athletic abilities. There's a lot more to becoming a good player than that. I mean Didi and Xabi were our best defensive midfielders in the past 20 years, and neither is more mobile than Lucas. United won the league with Carrick as the defensive midfielder and he is no more mobile than Lucas.

Xabi was partnered with our actual best defensive midfielder, Mascherano. Alonso was a playmaker, with somebody ver mobile beside him.

Maybe but he did close down really well pushed up and even picked out team mates with incisive passing in the opponents half.

The is more to come from him in the months to come.

Gerrard is mobile enough as Lucas' partner.

I dare say that some of the fans will have a moan if we purchase Sergio Busquets.. "But but he ain't mobilezzzzzz..."

You're right. It's about positioning, timing and anticipation too. Lucas is not great in these respects either. If we don't upgrade, well just have to hope that he raises his game to a consistently high level.

I don't think we'll upgrade. It isn't ideal, but I think we'll be fine with Lucas and Gerrard as our starting midfielders. As Utd have consistently shown, great midfield doesn't win you the league. Great attack does.

I don't think Rodgers would look to upgrade on two established, well liked first team players in the same window anyway.

If you believe the talk that draws were our undoing last season then you can see why another attacking player is needed.

I think there's more than a little preparation for Luis' eventual exit going on too.

Truest thing Ferguson ever said was that you are as good as your strikers. The last run we made for the league was because Torres was banging them in, not because of superior holding midfielders - that just produces draws, mainly of the 0-0 variety.

Fair enough. If you see my post above, I said I got the point. Sorry guys, I'm just really hoping we will sign him. I'll shut up now, or at least be positive. Well forget it, we got a fantastic start yesterday and if we could add Willian to this side we would rip many defenses apart this season.

Ignore him. He's in the process of slowly turning into his dad.

Well we had a 30 goal striker last season and we were still shit.

Willian? Or some guy with an afro?

The lad on the left in the white shirt is my cousins fella. He's a good lad. But he is a blue. Probably winding all of his red mates up.

Is that off twitter?

I will see if he is taking the piss or not.

EDIT: Well I got the he's a blue bit wrong. Always beem too busy ripping him for the fact he gets his eyebrows waxed and plucked to talk about footy.
