You're right John, people need to realise in life you don't get everything your own way. Thats just life as shitty as it is.

The one thing I will say though is with United by enlarge up until recently they've had fairly good spending power and had a fair few 20/30 million outlays.

We've had few in comparison and in many years...not just Rafas...I'm talking Houllier too...have had to deal with a bit less spending power. United in the same period too have been offloading there shite for decent sums of money to many of the brainless twats who manage in English football which further strengthens their hand.

United have spent, their own club generated money through commercial revenues and success on the pitch. We have arguably spent as much as them since their first title win in 26 years in 92-93 though.

One day, the penny may drop with us and the actual enjoyable aspect of football which is the skill of a manager to find these good players early. It would buy whoever the manager is a hell of a lot of good will in the long run.

He bought better and also bought worse.

Point i was trying to make, that those two were bought the first season and instantly got the fans excited about the direction the team was headed, both settled quickly and were pivotal to that season.

Garcia was infuriating at times, but he was also magical. We also would'nt have Istanbul if it was'nt for his goals leading up to the final.

I'm not arguing with you. I just thought there was more frustration than magic. Benitez had a patchy record in the transfer market, as has Dalglish, as had Houllier etc. No manager has a perfect record in this regard, for every extraordinary signing there will be several 'money down the pan' signings.

Cant argue with that, i agree totally.

The view of the managers success or failure in that is clouded to a degree a bit now though, with the club having a DOF for the first time.

Rafa wanted Villa and Alves before anybody here had heard much about them or moved to Valencia or Barcelona. There's a difference between wanting them before they hit the big time and plucking the names of the world's best players out of the air.

Or, in your language:

You know I said it right before we sacked Hodgson on RAWK, but I really think in an ideal world, both of them would be on our staff. Rafa got the tactics right more often than not but the players felt like they could never please him. Kenny has restored the feel good factor and making the players feel wanted by the club again.

If there was someway we could have both of them (Ideally Kenny as Manager and Rafa as first team coach or whatever role you want to dream up) working on the same staff I think they'd be unstoppable.

Of course that will never happen because things like that just aren't done in football, american football sure, but not proper football.

Not to mention it seems that there would be massive in-fighting between which manager is doing more work...

What a pair of pathetic cunts.

Indeed. Fairplay to Rafa though for telling them to that they need to get behind the team now.

He's not all too different from Kenny really, barring Kenny being a Legend as a player AND Manager, I think both men are cut from the same cloth for the most part.

Shame people have to argue about them and turn it into a competition really.

Why does the phrase ''throwing good money after bad'' spring to mind here though. We have thrown money at it for 20 years since we last won the title. It hasn't really worked overall. We are a lazy club now and have been for a long time.

I know it is a different era but the Liverpool that was so successful was all about finding good players early and having your star quality signings alongside them to supplement them. We haven't really found good players early for years. We wait for them to become known then sign them when they have an extra squillion on their valuation. Signings like Tiote and Cabaye cost half a Jordan Henderson. Where are we when looking for these kinds of players?

It doesn't seem to matter who the manager is, Houllier, Rafa, Roy, Kenny etc it is the same crap all the time.

Preach, brother, preach.

As somebody pointed out, whilst Benitez remains living in Merseyside and is out of work these mutterings will continue, I think Stringy is wrong to dismiss his support as mainly Internet based I know a lot of match going Reds who still idolise him, and I mean a lot. If we continue to serve up slop like yesterday I can forsee a real groundswell of support for his reinstatement which would be a mistake imo; Dougie Doins said in another thread that he can see a truly bitter Managerial war in the offing and I agree with him. I'm behind Kenny and just hope to God he can get us playing again

You can still compete with an inferior side if your tactics are spot on, if you have a inferior side and shit tactics you get what we're getting now. If you have an inferior side, but are tactically sound its possible to win the Champions league. I really love Kenny, i really do, but i just dont think he's tactically up to it. I didnt think i could still get as pissed off with football as i felt last week after Stoke, that performance yesterday has done it again.Worse. It fuckin hurts. Spineless, spiritless, talentless, tacticless (?).

I guess you were buzzing after we lost to Pompey, got thumped by Fulham or the goalless draw away to wolves without a shot on target? Or the tight 1-0 loss to fucking Wigan in March? Were those matches tactically masterminded as well? Or were the players too inferior compared to the players of these mighty opponents?

Sickening thread this and you can feel that people have been itching to finally be able to spill their posion.

Even so, I heard the phrase "unfinished business with Ferguson" when Kenny was simply given a diplomatic post in the summer of 2009, so if people want to get on a high horse if Kenny struggles and vultures circle they might want to think twice.

That's the way of the world of football at this level, in the modern era. Spoilt brats + internet immediacy = screeching hysteria.

Rafa coming back without wiping away the stain of two sackings in 6 months, to work with owners who have not really gained much currency with Reds apart from getting rid of the cancers and by ousting arguably LFC's greatest servant, well I can only see one outcome from that - and not good.

Although blowing up the internet might be advantageous...

Kenny Dalglish is Rafa Benitez in disguise anyway,

They like the same type of players unskillfull and slow.

Most importantly both their teams like to control games and are not prepared to risk losing a game to win a game both too cautious to ever win the PL

Surely you are joking here?!
