What is happening? I saw a blog that said there were Work Permit issues. anybody know anything?

People from his club in Uruguay are coming over to finalize it, they missed their connection flight in Spain or something and will be arriving tonight in Manchester. So probably tomorrow it will be finalized but I think they are looking for slightly more money and different payment schedule or some bullshit.

I read somewhere he's got a Spanish passport, so that shouldn't be a problem. That and the fact that he's just won the Copa America with one of the best national teams in the world at the moment.

Strange delay with this signing. Definitely something going on behind the scenes, it's usually money and the lad seems fit so I'll go with money. Probably a greasy South American palm needs a bit more grease.

My theory: We're being paid by Sky to help them make Deadline Day more exciting. Same with Suarez and Torres last time. The deals were already made a while before.

What's the accepted standard for pronounciation of non-Spanish South American surnames? For instance I'd usually hear Masch's name pronounced the Italian way, but Heinze's usually gets pronounced in Spanish (silent 'h' and all that) rather than German.

I thought his dad was Scottish? Peter Coates?

So Spanish phonetics of the British name would sound like .. Co -at - es
