Totally agree. It will be the beginning of the end of this grotesque experiment in populism. It'll also shift the Overton window. Johnson next to Biden at a press conference looks a lot different to Johnson next to Trump.

It’s, hopefully, run it’s course, the next thing people can vote for is full blown xenophobic government’s bordering on fascism and we can’t do that collectively, can we? 

 

Its happening in other tin pot countries that nobody pays attention to, but I’d have hoped that this algorithm and big data abusing popularism can’t take anymore voters away from ‘class based, habit based, voting’ and the populism with give way to sober, reflective politics in the larger ideological exporting nations.

 

The ‘never again in my lifetime’ generations voices aren’t loud anymore, and more pertinently they’re dying out, and histories mistakes are going unpunished though complicit acceptance, that’s my fear.

(CNN)Given the crisis facing the United States Postal Service before a presidential election, the last thing John Herter expected to receive in the mail Saturday was an absentee ballot request form with President Donald Trump's face on it.

"Is this a joke?" Herter said his wife told him as she opened up the mailer to reveal a photo of Trump grinning underneath the words, "Are you going to let the Democrats silence you? Act now to stand with President Trump."
Herter, of Lincoln County is among a group of voters in North Carolina to receive the mailer over the past few days after Trump said that he opposed crucial USPS funding because he doesn't want to see it used for mail-in voting this November.
During an interview on Fox News last week, Trump said that if USPS does not receive the additional $25 billion funding request that Democrats included in the ongoing stimulus negotiations, then he believes the Post Office won't be able to handle the influx of mail-in ballots in the upcoming election.

I think neither Trump nor Johnson have any idea how they came to power, it’s the hand, minds, money and expertise behind them that propelled them and formed the lack of ideological bent which they are caught up in. They gave full authority to a bunch a spivs who figured out how to rouse the rabble for their own ends and their heads still spin trying to understand it, but arrogance is an easy thing to pander to.
 

There are a group of individuals running roughshod of democratic tradition with their amoral approach to politics and they are using big data, focus groups, social media and semiotics to bend the will to their ends, whatever that may be, and that’s the real power. This is not really a nation state specific thing as these ideas can be used ‘cookie cutter’ style and have an impact. You only need a minority to shout a majority down if they don’t have the will to oppose.

 

This has always been a power grab whereby the electorate, ironically, give credence to them. No matter how much cognitive dissonance is involved people will dig in and support their people because they’re in an echo chamber that’s been created for them.
 

It’s almost too perfect. You get the people who should be clambering over the castle walls to defend it, whilst you plunder.

I found that video a bit superficial and lacking in substance despite eloquent delivery (could say the same for her husband), I mean "it is what is is"?! That  was until near the end when she spoke about getting out to vote, about packing a lunch bag and seeing it through.  That hit home, hopefully people were still watching at that point.

I thought it was well structured. Brief scene setting, stick it to Trump, big up Biden, tell people what they need to do to make sure Biden wins.
