I want to go camping this weekend but haven't got a clue where to start as in planning and booking shit. I don't really want to stay in a tent though because A; I don't own one and B; I just can't be arsed. I want to stay some where that preferably has a casino, a night club and a fancy restaurant, so campers, where do I start ??

Tessa beats Nettome Bargains, hands down. Lydia must be the only person on the planet who would relish the prospect of 8 hours in a car with my son. Don't know about blind, she must be bloody deaf to boot.

Wouldn't surprise me, she never answers when i call her.

Yes there are others but this one sprang to mind. Tin can static it is.

If you want to go camping in a tent and need to borrow the stuff you're more then welcome to borrow some of my kit. I'm not using it again until October. Jaden would love it, September is usually quite nice weather wise too.

Don't know if i posted it before, but here is the tent in all it's glory once we arrived and got it up (and then sorted the tent out - badum tshhhhh!)

and here is an unusually lit photo i snapped of my two lads on Aberdaron beach on the only day we had dodgy weather. I really like this, not altogether sure why though.

I fucking love Aberdaron: great, quiet beach, cheap car park, two great pubs that both do superb food, a chippy, a couple of cafes and a bakery that does wicked Cornish psties and Eccles cakes.

Guys here's a link to the site we stayed in, pretty decent it was too.

and because i'm really good to you (and way too lazy to write my own review) here's some user reviews...

Ty Newydd Farm Reviews, Pwllheli Campsites

Sherralea, have you been to "whistling sands" beach about three miles from Aberdaron? Best beach i've been to in Wales.

Cheers for that mate, rang them this evening and they managed to squeeze me in!

Any chance of a link and a review?

QUOTE]

I doubt they've got a website, don't even know if it had a name. It was just a roadside field which ran down to the beach, with a couple of telephone box sized shower / bog wetrooms. These were brightly lit throughout the night, attracting every arthropod within a three mile radius. Paid at a nearby farm and they didn't even seem to know or care how long we'd been there.

I much prefer this sort of site (there's another on anglesey, about 3/4 mile north of moelfre) where it's quiet and you can just spread all the shit about, rather than some sort of teutonic holding camp with numbered pitches and whitewashed cobbles. Even better if it's run by an eccentric.

For the like-minded, the best campsite I've ever been to (been back 3 years running) is called Ty Canol just south of Newport, Pembrokeshire. Super, super place, run by an old guy who's always drinking and turns away people he doesn't like the look of. Had a 4 acre field almost to ourselves for a week this July.

Good work, not the easiest place in the world to find but give them a ring when you get to Aberdaron and they'll give you directions. Check out that "Whistling Sands" beach if you get the chance, think it's called Porth Oer or something similar. Only a couple of miles from the campsite and if the weather is decent it's a stunning beach. There's even a bit of surf.

Just back now. Awesome. Three days of pretty good weather, even got a tan! You're right about it being remote but that was never an issue for me otherwise i would of went to Rhyl.

Beach was superb and my four year old had a ball; the campsite was full and friendly and great value. Sampled the delights of both pubs in the village and also the cafe and all where great. Will deffo go again next year and this time will take the wife and youngest.

Cheers for the link!

Off to Colne this weekend, for the R&B Festival. I'd feel cheated if we ever saw a ray of sun up there: it'd somehow be wrong.

And, we're back.

Totally knackered, from too much music and drinking (and nothing else, Your Honour). Weather was predictably unpredictable and only bothered turning hot when we were coming home. Spent a lot of time hiding in our tent from the cold/wind/rain - but since our tent was next to the marquee where the bands were, that wasn't a problem. Another boss weekend.

I'm sure Melons will be along shortly bragging about the bargain she got herself that she mentioned in the "do you haggle" thread but i'm looking for a decent sized tent, 5 of 6 berth which is easy to build and not too expensive.

I think this is possibly the best time of year to get one. Anyone know of any places clearing their stock?

I did think about putting it in here, but figured i hog this thread far too much anyway.

In the past i've had to be able to carry and put all my tents up on my own, as the kids are now bigger i figured i can go for ones they need to help me with. That said my new baby can be put up on my own too apparently.

Your choice of tent will depend on number of people, ages of those you want to camp, type of camping (eg, summer only) and if it's for weekend or long trips. You don't want to be taking a massive tent to only be putting it up for two nights. If you're planning long trips you'll need space to be inside when the weather is pants.

And if you'd of bumped this thread on saturday i could of told you about the bargain sale i went to yesterday. If it helps they should be doing another in March, one of these was £25.

Gelert Horizon 6 Tent: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Leisure

Add on a fiver if you wanted the carpet.

and one of these for £15

Gelert Atlantis Five Man Tent - Riviera/Charcoal: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Leisure

Whilst it was in Porthmadog, even fuel considered it would of been worth the money saved.

I'd recommend a coleman or outwell if money isn't an issue and you don't want to be replacing it every year or two. I go camping around 20/30 times a season usually (this year was a fail) so replace my tent every year. To be fair i don't even think the likes of mountain tents could tolerate the crap i put my tents through.

Anyway.... my new tent...

Here's heads up to a great weekend for one of your last camps of the season, even if it's pissing it down, the marquees mean that it's not a total wash out http://www.shellisland.co.uk/Shell-Island-2010-Halloween-and-Firework-weekend.html Last year it was jeans and t-shirt weather, not even fleece jumpers in the day and was much warmer then any march, april camping i've done. Fingers crossed for the same for this year.

Shite, i don't think it's going to be quite that warm this weekend.

Still going though, ace.

Anyone starting to get the itch yet? can't wait to load the motor and get away from it all for a few days.

I was supposed to be out this weekend, not looking likely, temperatures to dip below zero and kids point blankly refusing to go if it does. I was being easy on them too, planning on an electric hook up and a delongi rad. What more do they want? Selfish toads.

Hopefully get out the first weekend of April, then for the ten days after Easter in the hope to escape the royal wedding hype.

Pfft, my kids will do what ever it takes. Spent the evening in A&E, second daughter is in a cast for the week.

Ha, the reprobate didn't quit succeed, she came out of a cast last week but ended up in a walking boot type thing. She's still using crutches but being the inconsiderate neglectful mother that i am, she's still going camping.

We're off to Shell Island tomorrow for ten days or so, depending on the weather, if it stays like this i refuse be home until after the may bank holiday. Fortunately it's closer to my mothers home then mine so that funeral that needs to be attended won't be a massive inconvenience.

Anyone else gallivanting over Easter?

Words, 8.
