Burton v Liverpool

the complete performance by Henderson again.

It would seem inappropriate to criticize him after a 5-0 win, but he's just such a nothing player. He could have played for Burton tonight and I wouldn't have noticed him. Think I'm just tired of watching him play for Liverpool.

Very good performance and a nice way to try forget about Saturday. Mane was utterly brilliant and already one of our most important players. Clyne was great, his final third play really improving, great to see Sturridge score 2 and maintain his outrageous record and move around so freely. Hopefully Can and Div ready for Saturday.

Mane is just so, so good.  Someone said he's becoming our most important player, I might argue that he already is, and by some distance.

We don't look the same when he's not playing; for all Coutinho and Firmino's brilliance in space when they have to break down a packed defense they just don't look like they have any ideas.  Mane will just run at them until he beats them, it's great to see.

One thing noticeable about Mane is his desire. When he closes down and goes for a ball, you believe he's gonna win it. Don't wanna knock Divock too much - but he could do with adding that to his game.

Fully agreed with this.

Divock has, as the Americans say, "all the tools."  But so does Balotelli, you need more than that, you need a brain (which Balotelli doesn't have, and Divock does) and you need desire.  Origi is so inconsistent with that last part - he will be running himself into the ground for 10 minutes and then just seem to kind of lose interest.

It might not have been so noticeable tonight had Mane not been applying himself with a passion we haven't seen since a certain Uruguayan left, but Origi was really on his heels several times when Mane and Firmino were pressing.  There were a couple of occasions where if he had seen the situation developing just a half-second earlier and stepped up he would have been in to win the ball in the final third.  Instead he just missed out and they passed around the press.

That was the definition of a walk in the park. Burton are a limited side but they also don't park the bus and fill their team with alehouse grocks so we didn't have to concern ourselves with dealing with a succession of set-pieces or fighting for the second ball, and we didn't have to concern ourselves with how to break them down in open play. Burton offered almost zero threat and never made life uncomfortable for us.

We didn't learn anything about our side but in the first half in particular, the work rate and application was there from all of them. We tailed of a bit in the second as the game increasingly took on the air of a pre-season friendly.

I would have liked to have seen Ings and Grujic get a run out ideally.
