Sadio Mane

In his last season at Southampton, he scored against us in the first minute of a League Cup tie that we went on to win 6-1, and apparently he didn't score again until Southampton played us in the league a few months later. That was the game where we were 2-0 up at half time and brought on Skrtel in the second half. Skrtel had an absolute shocker and Mane scored twice to win the game for them. Mane is a player who has purple patches and spells where he's out of form. Last season, he was in form for us pretty much every time he played.

It’s not quite coming off for him but he worked his bollocks off yesterday.

All you can ask of someone out of form is effort and he gave that in spades.

Spot on said the same in the match thread.

Some of the comments on him need fucking off

Please elaborate. Even Dave has been vocal about his form on his columns.. and he’s one of the more optimistic posters around here with threads like “we ain’t got no shit players left”.

Hope we’ll see the Mane of last season for the remainder of the season. Not quite there yet, but trajectory is looking promising.

He only has one less assist and goal than he did last season in pretty much the same amount of appearances thus far this season (12 and 7 in 28 this vs. 13 and 8 in 29 last).

His performances aren't always as brilliant, but he's contributing pretty much the same.

He was skinning defenders left right and centre in the process though. He genuinely looked world class at one point last season.

Yeah, but he's not a world class player. He's just as likely to produce genius than trip over his own feet. That's been the story of his career and the nature of his style. He can be braindead and has technical limitations but he's also electric and instinctive.

I've just grown to appreciate the genius when it comes rather than expect him to grow into a world beater. I also think Firmino and Salah having world-class seasons have made him look worse than he's been.
