Without a shadow of doubt and probably the greatest album i have ever heard:

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here.

I was telling the missus the other day what a fucking shame that there will probably never be bands quite like Floyd, Yes, (early) Genesis, Zep, Supertramp ever again.

I think she now realises why I want to put my foot through the goggle box when she flicks over to fucking X Factor.

The first ten that came into my head as I started typing (can't separate them really):

The ArchAndroid - Janelle Monae

Donuts - J Dilla

Parade - Prince

My Life - Mary J. Blige

Paul Weller - Paul Weller

Black On Both Sides - Mos Def

Wu-Tang (Enter the 36 Chambers) - The Wu-Tang Clan

The Cole Porter Song Book - Ella Fitzgerald

Off The Wall - Michael Jackson

Songs In The Key Of Life - Stevie Wonder

Mike Patton on his absolute finest. Remember seeing Mr.Bungle live just after they released their second album Disco Volante. One of the best gigs I've ever been too. Madness!

I love Mr Bungle and this album is their finest and more accessible. An acquired taste are Bungle.

Any one of ...

Pink Floyd - Animals

Massive Attack - Mezzanine

Radiohead - Kid A/OK Computer

The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses

Interpol - Turn on the bright lights

Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure

The Vaccines - What Did You Expect from the Vaccines?

Portishead - Third

Brian Eno/David Byrne - My Life in the Bush of Ghosts

The The - Soul Mining

Royksopp - Melody a.m.

Moderat - Moderat

Simple Minds - New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)

Kraftwerk - Computer World

Talking Heads - Remain in Light

Scott Walker - Scott 4

Primal Scream - Screamadelica

They would be the ones i would save if my house was on fire. Although actually finding them in a blind panic would be another matter *kisses iPod*

I'll be honest Zig, I wasn't expecting that when I saw your user name pop up.

I think I need my avatar back.

Perhaps you should change your user name then. ;)

Because coincidentally my choice is:

The Rise and Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And the Spiders From Mars - Bowie.

I chose my username because I think i'd been listening to that album a lot around the time I signed up. Haven't listened to it in quite a while, but definitely a great album, although I prefer Hunky Dory, that's one of my very favourites. Possibly 2nd.

Others that spring to mind;

Come On Feel The Illinoise! - Sufjan Stevens

OK Computer - Radiohead

Tigermilk - Belle & Sebastian

Is This It - The Strokes

Seems I need to expand my musical taste as there are loads of bands and albums I like a lot, but not many I love, and none really come close to Funeral for me personally.

A few supposed classics mentioned on this thread which I have in my iTunes but have never really properly listened too, will give some a go soon.

There is a slight chance they may have owned a Clash record or two.

No shit. The Clash, The Specials, GBH and Motown (aka how Matt Freeman learned to play bass) all in there among many others. But none of the above were Rancid, just like Rancid have never been any of the above.

The intros to Pretty Vacant and I'm so Bored... who stole what from who?

While you work that one out I'll be off enjoying the music.

So, Rancid weren't other bands and those other bands weren't them? have I got that right?

Got the first edition of Disco Volante (with bonus 7") on vinyl, mint condition, last week from eBay for a reasonable price.

Got the cd since it it came out, but I'm a vinyl junkie/collector, so...

I'd say this is as good as the debut album. Much more complex listening though.

Amazing music.

Top tracks: Carry Stress In The Jaw, Ma Meeshka Mow Skwoz.
