Just listened to that Steely Dan album posted earlier (Aja).

Quite a few hip hop samples ripped off that. Most notable being Eye Know by De La Soul.

Very nice. As mentioned earlier the production levels are tight as fuck. Perfect funky summer sounds. Thanks for posting. Will have to get acquainted with the rest of their back catalogue.

I've got the making of that album on Dvd. Would highly recommend watching it about how the produced and recorded the album etc...

Top man.  I know there are lots of other good albums in there, but I am just surprised to see this one.

I also have the Fluke remixes of She's a Rainbow.  Brilliant stuff.  Fluke can be brilliant on their day.

  • 1 month later...

I remember heckling Inspiral Carpets when they played that "This Is How It Feels"; it is basically a rip off of Walking Back to Happiness, so after every line I'd do the "Whoop Wha Whoh Way-ay".

I love a good heckle.

I later got to know Tom pretty well.  A really nice bloke.

But that album shouldn't be anywhere near this thread.

(That said, Directing Traffic, Joe, Butterfly, I Want You, Sackville and Keep the Circle Around are all brilliant songs)

have really enjoyed being out and about with it again and there is not one duffer track on a completely superb debut. precisely why it's a worthy nomination. this week.

this is not a 'chin stroking' record or a critics dream, but it's an LP that encapsulated much excitement as a teenager at the start of the '90's and still holds up now with it's undoubted charm. reckon it's a corker and i'll always return to it.

I absolutely loved The Inspiral Carpets when I was a kid, personally I thought The Beast Inside was their best LP at the time but haven't listened to them for 20 odd years now.

The first 12" I ever bought was Move in Eastern Bloc records in Manchester, I didn't know what it was called so my Dad took me up to the counter & I sang it to the guy, fond memories.

I actually bought CD’s of The Bends and OK Computer as a joint purchase because so many people were raving about Radiohead. I had never heard any of their music before and have never suffered the torment since.

The last I saw of The Bends it was propping up the leg on a wonky table.

Following a bitter argument, I gave OK Computer to my sister as a birthday present. I’ve always felt ashamed of myself for that, it was such a tasteless thing to do.

Negged for being ridiculous.

This has just turned into a chin stroking competition, who can come up with the most obscure album.

Even the Floyd fans in here trying to make out Meddle, Atom Heart Mother and Obscure by clouds etc was a better album than The Wall.

Fuck off, "Trembling Arse Biscuit Bag" which is a live bootleg recording of Roger Waters washing his car, is a far superior album to The Wall. Only fourteen people have heard it, so it has to be better.
