There’s been three American presidents since the soft cunts last won a derby game, and Obama was only a year into an eight year term.

They have nothing they can say to paints us in a bad light without an easy comeback.

Everything begins and ends with Heysel.

Some Man City fan replied to it "are you still banned now?"

Well city may as well still be banned seeing as they havent won anything in Europe since 1970 cup winners final against mighty Gornik Zarbe.

That sounds like a bad character from Mork and Mindy.

The ultimate ifithadntbinferderredshite poll

To answer him.

- Rooney would have left in 05

- Everton would have qualified for Europe for a few years, achieved nothing, then shrunk back into mediocrity

 - Someone else might have disallowed that goal and entered Bloo folklore. Or, Everton might have scraped into the group stages of the Champions League and been humiliated by better teams than the one who battered them in the UEFA Cup.

 - Liverpool might have won anyway.  Or Everton would have got battered by Chelsea in the Final.

 - I don't even remember that.  Was it a significant match?

 - Every time they have signed a half-decent player in the last 30 or more years, he's quickly realised that they are shite and he's moved on.  Riquelme would have been no different.

The Times have ran a piece on the admittedly excellent EITC.

However, it quickly turns to LFC, despite Red Neighbours delivered thousands of local meals during lockdown, an organisation which isn’t as strategically publicised.

I know a director at EITC, he and others there are good Reds.

Howard kendall didnt leave to compete in Europe as the first season he was at Bilbao they hadn't even qualified for Europe.

Lineker left after one year because Barcelona offered them more than double what they paid for him. He joined them when they were already banned.

Also, all other English teams were banned from Europe but only a few players left to go abroad. Rush, Mark Hughes, Steve Archibald, Glenn Hoddle etc. It wasn't such a massive issue that the whole league lost their best players to European clubs.

Also, the money that Italian clubs and top Spanish clubs offered at the time was a lot more that what was on offer in the English League. The Italian league had some of the best players in the world in the late 80s.

Chris Waddle went to Marseille when Bernard Tapie took over and threw money at the club and Hoddle would have lived in Monaco not paying tax.

The mental gymnastics they perform....

Mountfield had lost his place to Dave Watson and was riddled with injuries and left to join newly promoted Villa in 88.

Richardson left to go to Watford - are the bitters saying Watford were a bigger club than them?

Mimms was a back up goalie who only played when Southall was injured.

Wilkinson left to go to Nottingham Forest and had a career mostly spent at Watford and Middlesbrough and a then a few other lower league clubs.

Gary Stevens they copped for over 1m for him from Rangers - good money at time and good ammo to have to spend.

Heath hardly played in or scored in a top flight game again after leaving them a handful of games in Spain where he was shite followed by eventually settling at Burnley in the lower divisions.

Harper left to go to Sheff Weds because he was a bit part player.

Reid left on a free to go to QPR.

Trevor Steven they copped 2m from Rangers for him, great ammo to use in the market.

Van den Hauwe went to Tottenham and had a mediocre end to his career there.

Clarke they bought Mike Newell in part exchange for him and about half a million.

Bracewell went to Sunderland and had a very mediocre time after....maybe Sunderland were a big club raiding poor little Everton...

Pointon - Man City (when they were shite) Oldham, Walsall...was his career after Everton.

So where is this big drain of all these top players being taken away from them because of the ban?

Literally none of them moved to a so called bigger club, or was a case of a club with more ambition/standing coming in and taking them away against Everton's will and none of them (Lineker aside) ever really achieved much of note/had what you would call stellar careers that you could look back as an Evertonian and say 'that should have been with us, we were robbed of him'

They weren't all ripped away by Europe's glamour clubs to go and play in the European Cup and UEFA Cup were they...they weren't all ripped away to star in Serie A were they.

The mental gymnastics these beauts go through.

It's just a fucking myth isn't it. How were we able to keep hold of virtually all the team bar Ian Rush after 85?. Players were leaving England even before the ban for better money, mid season break and a better lifestyle. Souness had left in 1984 when we were European champions, our best player who we never really replaced.

Platini turned down a move to Tottenham before he signed for Juventus because he didn't fancy the physical aspect of the English league and the fact that they played through Christmas and new year.

Even after 1985 the European ban was never really mentioned as a reason to play in Europe. I think Rush's season at Juventus was in the UEFA Cup. It's not like it is now where players fuck off the minute they arent at a club in the Champions League. They are basically using today's context and applying it to that era.

We rebuilt after Rush left and spent the money wisely. Everton got good money for Lineker and the two who went to Rangers but pissed it away. They roughly had the same amount of money as us round that time and could have bought better players to replace the ones they discarded by choice.

    • None of this is any of the players fault.   It is all down to poor decision making, not considering properly how short having just 3 senior centre halves when 1 is made of paper and another has a pretty ropey fitness record left us - and then the laughable reaction to what became a full on crisis when all 3 were fucked.
    • I agree, but it won’t happen that way. I’m absolutely sure it won’t.   the fundamental problem with this is replicated elsewhere in society these days, and it’s that we now want accountability for all things and no allowance of a mistake - unless you’re the prime minister when no accountability is required at all.   in our search to eradicate the relatively small number of egregious mistakes made by officials we’ve got this answer where just as many mistakes are happening, only they’re now happening over tiny things that nobody used to be arsed about, while still having occasional egregious mistakes like that maguire non-penalty in Daves roundup go unpunished and the mess with Mason’s free kick etc.   Id have no issue at all with all goals being subject to review for an obvious offside, and a VAR there for bad challenges that are missed and nothing else - not even  a challenge system - just a non invasive use of an extra pair of video aided eyes to get rid of howlers.   if - like sterling vs city which we come back to often - a flag was wrongly raised and it’s obvious on second viewing, overturn it. If the opposite is clearly the case, disallow an incorrectly awarded goal.   beyond that, keep your gob shut, leave your etch a sketch in its box and get on with the fucking game.
    • I try to forget cunts like that even exist.
    • For now maybe. Jota was supposed to be available against Sheff Utd until the day of the match until he got sick.
    • Like I said no disrespect to the lad , hope he goes on to earn a good living. Fabinho should be choice 5 or 6 , and in between we should have much better actual centre halves putting pressure on the very breakable Gomes and Matip . I don't see your problem
