'Arguably' is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.

Also, if you consider how many football clubs there are in the world, then everyone in the top flight of one of Europe's big five leagues can call themselves one of the biggest in world football.

Guardian is speculating that if they beat Sheffield United this weekend they could go in to administration next week taking the 9 point hit this season.

Everton administration

They can't, there's a cut off point where administration deductions apply in the same season. We're long past that, so any points deduction will be next season now.

Thanks, I thought they might be wrong about that. It'd be an easy way for clubs to avoid the penalty of administration.

Yep, string it out until they're safe and then take the hit. Kind of what this noble club did with their first points deduction this season, which should have been applied last season and would have seen them relegated.

That Guardian article suggests different.

Relegation would fuck them up for a very long time. They would have to sell all their high earners and just take offers off clubs knowing that they have them over a barrell.

They would be less attractive to any other buyers with less tv income to repay the stadium and possibly get another points deduction from the EFL who are more proactive dealing with cheating.

It sounds a bit like you fear for them.

Just typical “legends in their own minds” Everton fan hyperbole. Nobody else sees them that way, so they input this stuff themselves to make themselves feel better. They must be one of the only sets of fans that revel in relative success that occurred before half of them were even born. Newcastle fans are rightly embarrassed about their lack of recent success, but Everton go on as if they wiped the floor with all comers in recent memory. I was born in 1970 and they have been utter shite for the entirety of that time apart from a brief spell in the mid to late 80s and even then they were overshadowed by us.

just imagine being a bloo

you have years and years of mediocrity and the one time you get a decent side,we do the double.

2005 is a particular favourite. They scrape into 4th, Moyes is quaffing champagne in his garden, then we win the CL in probably the greatest final of all time. They get knocked out of both the CL and EL qualifiers, and end up in the bottom 3 after the first ten games, having scored only 3 goals.

They are ultimate unflushable turd. Somehow they'll come through this and get rescued at the 12th hour

I think a lot will balk at the debts they have to pay off and the how much left required to finish the stadium

Administration would effectively wipe out most of the  debt.

Imagine all the small local businesses and sole traders who would not be getting money owed to them if they go into administration. It would be a fucking disgrace and probably lead to people losing jobs and ending up out of work.

If they do go into administration we should make an offer for their new stadium and give it to the LFC women's team.

Misogynist. What an awful thing to do to the poor girls.

Wasn’t that from an Everton website?

Their reliability on fact checking is usually dubious at best.
