Yeah, I can't stand those shows that put a really poor family in a rich families home for a week and give them more disposal income than they have probably ever seen in their life and then they go back to normal life. Apart from The Shield being at number one, I agree with all of this. I did go through a stage when furloughed last year of watching can’t pay, we’ll take it away. My mrs banned me though due to the rage it would send me into at the bay-lifts. By the time I decided I was watching people’s misery and needed to stop, I had started siding with the bailiffs on some of the cases, and thought enough is enough. There are some fucking robbing cunts out there withholding money and they need sorting, but the way they talk to some of the debtors is horrendous. That one old grey haired fella was sound though. Ringing round for digs for immigrant families who’d lost their house and didn’t know what to do, but stern and commanding with the rabscallions.

Still, it's not as if they were chasing pensioners for TV license payment. They were all people who owed money, and if there was a genuine hardship story they were generally willing to work with them. A lot of the debtors were just robbing cunts who had it coming  though. Car yards selling shit cars and refusing to front up and the like.

Yeah, agree with that last bit to be fair. It’s similar to the thought that voting one way or another can define you as a person.

 

There were some dodgy situations there though, were people had claims against them for fuck all, like they weren’t behind with rent and the landlord had given them a verbal agreement which should lead to an eviction window, then they’d escalate it to the high court without telling them and they would be homeless 6 weeks early. 
 

The worst on there were the ones who obviously just partied, trashed the house and withheld rent, then started saying that the living conditions were awful and threatening to knock fuck out of the elderly guy who owned it as a sort of self fulfilling prophecy in their own heads. Fucking rats.

 

Edit - thinking back, it was the bailiffs on there who seemed to revel in it too. The situations where they could try and arrange a payment plan and the guy is begging them, ringing his fucking nan and that and they wouldn’t even ring and check. Then you’ve got Neil Ruddock on one given carte fucking Blanche as he was famous, and he fucks them off.

What would appeal to you about going into someone's house and taking their stuff, regardless of what they haven't or haven't done? If you're on the dole and the job centre are giving you grief about taking such a job fair enough I suppose, but otherwise...

 

Another thing that pisses me off about that system is it is basically structured so that people who don't know the rules and the law aren't able to get around it the way the bigger boys do.

 

So some poor sod loses their job or whatever and, say, the car company seize the car. But then down the road you've got Acme electronics that goes bust owing millions, closes on Friday then reopens on Monday as New Acme electronics limited.

It's good money and doesn't require much training. It's a tough job though, you have to be thick-skinned and not averse dealing with conflict on a daily basis. You also need to be a bit of a cunt, I know people are saying some of them seem sound but they are still kicking families out on the street, even if they do try to help them a little.

But by and large, when they are evicting someone from a property it's not on behalf of some faceless corporation, it's usually an individual who's rented out the property in good faith and is relying on the rent money to pay their mortgage. It's not their fault, so why should they end up in the shit? 

 

Besides which, that's not all they do. You've picked a very emotive facet of the job to focus on mate. They also retrieve money for people that have been ripped off by scumbags. Swings and roundabouts.

I was waiting in line once in the canteen and he was literally jumping up and down on the spot behind me as he was so impatient, ants in his pants, proper agitated because he had to wait behind me while I poured soup into a pot for my dinner, then after he'd got his dinner he ran up the stairs back to his office.

A woman I work with bought and renovated a flat then rented it to some hippy woman in her early sixties. Had good references, no criminal record or any signs of being a crank.

 

Out of the 15 months she rented the flat she only paid 3 months rent, completely trashed the place, hoarded tons of utter shite. She completely refused to engage with the woman I work with and even said the flat was now hers as she had lived in it for a year. 

 

She had to go through a long winded process and was that stressed about it she needed anti depressants and lost some of her hair. Her husband even wanted to go round and drag the woman out and kick her fucking head in.  She spent thousands in court fees and a bailiff as well as lost rent and over ten grands damage to the flat. No reason apart from wanting to be an utter cunt.

Most of the people evicted these days are being turfed out because the Tories put a housing cap on what councils are allowed to pay and it often falls short of what the landlord asks for the property, the tenants then have to make up any shortfall from their benefits which often sees them falling behind and so the debt builds. Not picking a side like, because most cases are different.
