We barely started a title-winning season well

For a long time people here suggest that we must start were we took off last season to have a chance to win the title. Well.........

1981-82 : Ipswich are league leaders by September with West Ham and Swansea closest to them, we were not even in the top five. We won the league with Ipswich 2nd, Swansea 6th and West Ham 9th.

1983-84 : By the end of September we were 4th, with West Ham leading. They ended 9th while we won the league and european cup.

1985-86 : Manchester United won their first 10 games and were leading. we were just in the top 4 by september. United finished 4th and 4 points adrift.

1987-88 : Queens Park Rangers lead by the end of September with us 5th. They ended in 5th place and 23-points adrift while we won the league with a 9-point margin.

1989-90 : We were just in the top 5 by mid September, with Coventry leading the league with Sheffield Wednesday. we won the league again by a 9-point margin, while Coventry finished 12th and Sheffield Wednesday got relegated.

I took the data at September, let alone August. The only title-winning season in the eighties which we got out of August with a decent start was 1982-83 season.

The point I'm trying to make is a first day loss, or a bad start didn't stop us winnig leagues and cups, why should it stop us now. If anything, a bad start should be a good omen for the new season going by the data above.

Rubbish Answer Ace you idiot given that the Manc Scum who you doubtlessly compare us to, to OUR disadvantage started THEIR title winning seasons in some seasons the following way; 1992/1993 - lost first TWO games Home and Away; 1995/1996; Battered at Villa in 1st game; 1996/1997; something like 3 draws in first 5 games; 1998/1999; 2 draws, 2 wins and a total hiding at Arsenal in first five games;

Then theres THIS decade; 2000/2001; 2 draws in first 3 games; 2002/2003; Beat West Brom, then drew with Chelsea and Sunderland; 2007/2008; Drew at home to Reading and lost at City; 2008/2009; in first 4 games drew with Chelsea and Newcastle (the Geordies at Home!), lost to us and beat only Portsmouth.

And those seasons include the last TWO seasons of Premier League football as well as a couple from the nineties and earlier THIS decade. Doesn't sound like 'not the eighties now' does it? Idiot. Get lost and come back when we PLAYED some GAMES rather than just one. Actually, don't come back at all as we don't NEED prats like you following us....................

PaulMcc; So NO-ONE can take points off the top teams can they? Funny but I could of sworn WE (one of the top two last time out) lost points to Spurs this and last season. Not to mention the Mancs losing to Fulham and Us (twice) last time out, Arsenal losing to Stoke and Hull last year, Chelsea losing to Spurs and us (Twice) and City losing to everybody last term at some point. Then there were draws for us and Chelsea against Fulham, West Ham, Hull, Stoke and Newcastle (we had some draws, them others), The Mancs drew with Spurs and Villa and Arsenal had a LOT of draws last term against the likes of West Ham, Fulham, Sunderland (twice) and of course us twice.

No, I think you're VERY wrong and the leagues actually MORE likely to see the top sides lose points this time than less as the teams have levelled out a little in terms of quality. Just wait and see................

We started our shite seasons badly also.

Just saying.

Except 96/97 and 02/03. Both seasons were a crushing disappointment after a fantastic start. Just saying.

The one pressure point for us is that we were runners-up last season despite losing only twice. We are already halfway there.
