I think he's tried to walk a tightrope. Why mention a good game for neutrals if he was four-square behind the Mancs? I don't think he wants them to win, but Rooney is one of his mates whether we like it or not, and I suspect the second sentence was for his benefit, even if Gerrard doesn't actually believe it.

 

I still prefer the Pepe/Rafa approach.

I think the point is he didn't need to say it. Rafa has spent a whole season creating a great us versus them atmosphere and he goes and bum loves half their team. He may not have meant it that way but it looks shit seeing those quotes. This season has hurt enough as it is.

 

Look someone asked him a question, so he answered. All of the verbal and non-verbal clues made it very obvious he was saying the PC thing. And who can blame him after the shit Benitez got after the Ferguson BS and Rooney got for the hate thing. As he actually said "I'm sitting on the fence".
