Bring in Mikey Owen in January

Babel has shown promise on so many occasions but he has equally shown that he may not make it at LFC. In a lot of matches he can become relatively anonymous.

Aye. Babel and Keane are both starting to piss me off big time. Babel more than Keane as Keane arrived at LFC just this season.

Babel should stop being unhappy and do his bit in the pitch. The reward will naturally follow. It looks to me as if he is not bothered anymore.

And it is about time for Keane to put the ball in the net regularly - he should atleast put those sitters away. If he continues in his present form, I would drop him and put Kuyt upfront with Torres (if we play 4-4-2) or partner Gerrard with Torres in a 4-2-3-1.

But he's not getting a chance. I think Babel could be superb for us, but a few minutes here and there and the odd start is not giving him the chance.

It would make pragmatic sense. Owen would never be hungrier or more determined if he came back here, and it would be his best chance of getting back in the England squad. From our point of view, if he was cheap he'd be about a billion times more value than having the likes of Voronin sitting on the bench. He'd also score more goals than Fowler did when he returned.

I like Keane, but he's only half the player of Michael owen and has been fucking WOEFUL in front of goal.

Forget the"injury prone" argument. This is the only argument that matters - 398 games, 200 goals.

For what would be little more than what we pai for Ngog, or a third of what we paid for Bennayoun, it would be the steal of the fucking century.

Isnt that what his job is? As number 7 he is on the field to provide. SUre we also need him to weigh in with at least 10+ goals per season but I think he will still hit that.

People might think he is a provider, but he is not, never have been and never will be.

Keane is a front striker being at his best when he can feed of a link player constantly chasing on the shoulder of defense.

His best game for us came when he had this ecaxt role

I dont know where to start with this. Voronin was a preseason specialist and that was displayed in his goals tally you mention. The most important difference however is that Keane acutally gives a shit, in fact that is also his downfall in that he is consistently trying to force the killer ball rather than biding his time until better opportunities present themselves.

Voronin got labelled lazy because he was clever and did not chase shadows.

But he worked more than hard enough both defensively and in attack when he actually could achieve anything other than wasting his breath.

He got injured after a great start and he picked up his form again toward the end of the season and during pre-season but then he had already got the fans on his back because he was no yard dog.

But its not really about Voronin either, its about Keane being a colossal waste of money considering his contributions to the team.

Im not even going to go into the 'worst signing ever', that is just idiotic.

In the context of above I cant think of a better tag, sorry about that, hopefully he will improve.

Babel has shown promise on so many occasions but he has equally shown that he may not make it at LFC. In a lot of matches he can become relatively anonymous. Keane is getting on the ball and looking to make things happen, looking to make that pass or looking to retain possession.

I am not for a second saying that Keane has been a success thus far, but to describe him as the worst signing ever is utterly rediculous. As I say, Carra today asks supporters for patience and on the same day you are calling for us to cut out losses on our worst signing ever. Get a grip for fuck sake.

I dont care what Keane is looking to do, I care about what he does or more accurate what he does not do, mainly putting the ball in the back of the net from chances even my sister would be ashamed of missing.

His constant moaning does him no favours either.

I`m not saying we should sell him at all costs, but if we could sign Owen on the cheap and actually get half our money back on Keane who then again could be invested in any of a LB, RB, LM, RM with pace and decent ability I would be all for it.

I think this is a chicken and egg scenario. The lad was a very effective sub throughout last season but Utd apart, he didn't have the same success this year. And I really think its because, as you said, he isn't getting enough starts. From Rafa's point of view, Babel isn't doing much with the minutes he is getting so what has he done to warrant a start? Especially when Riera has done reasonably well in the same time.

The lad has potential and he has to start showing it this season. I really hope him and Keane hit the ground running soon as they could be the huge difference in whether we win the number 19 or not this season.

That's just bollocks. Chances aren't given to you, you take them when you have the opportunity.

2 or 3 half decent performances aside, he just hasn't done that.

He's got nobody to blame but himself.

Let's not forget we paid over TEN MILLION FUCKING QUID for this lad. He's not just some "prospect", especially not after 2 seasons.

I'd personally get rid in January to the highest bidder as I don't think his attitude is right.

I'm also genuinly beginning to doubt that he even has the ability, and especially the ability to be consistent.

Ok I know im going to get slated for this but seeing as the issue has been raised here goes.

I was told on Sunday that the club had been approached about Owen wanting to return.

The price I was told was £1m and he'd take a 50% pay cut to get the deal done, but apparently Rafa isn't interested.

Please give the messenger a bit of a start before you start shooting.

Not questioning you by any means but I really find that hard to believe. Especially when the price is just £1m (nearly a bosman free).

And there is my biggest problem with Michael Owen, always has one eye on England, personally I wouldn't like to see him coming back here...but then again I do tend to be a bitter person at the best of times.

Thats a totally valid point, and not far away from what I thought at the time. Also why I didn't start a thread about it.

The only plausible part of it was that Rafa isn't interested, but that's hardly the best kept secret is it.

Just thought I'd add it to the debate.

can't see Rafa going for him for a number of reasons 1) leaving in 04 and burn't bridges 2) not having a regular spot and knowing he'd make a rod for his own back with all the fan boys and media demanding he plays because it's important to capello and the Nations Hopes in 2010, which will all of a sudden become a big issue and talking point to beat LFC and Rafa with

I'd like to see more of him too.

Put him up front with Torres in a home game and let him prove himself in his natural position.

Ive heard a rumour that he is on way his way to Villa apparently it's part of their big push to get c/l football for next season I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up there with Barry Young and Agbonlher he proably thinks that would enhance his England credentials although some of their fans are worried they might get HESKEY instead.

Aye. Can't see Rafa signing him. And, as Rebel pointed out above, I can see the media jumping on "Owen for England" and "Why is Owen not starting at Liverpool?" at every single opportunity. Or everytime Torres fails to score.

Thanks for posting what you know mate.

I see your point, but Owen knows he's most likely to impress Capello at one of the big four rather than one of the others, and he also probably realises Capello sees him, at best, as a squad player rather than someone who'll start every game and lead the line, so fitting in with Bentiez's tactics, though frustrating, would actually make more sense than going off to Spurs or Man City and doing much the same as he is at Newcastle. If anyone can deliver to Capello an Owen with the right attitude and technical nous it's Benitez.
