There was a time when I'd have agreed whole-heartedly with that sentiment. However, I now know that salad is fucking lovely if you dress it right and add tasty variations on a protein theme. I genuinely fucking love a good salad. Done right, it's a genuine treat.

Definitely. English salads are definitely very boring and one dimensional. I had an octopus salad once that was absolutely amazing. Also, some American salads are interesting - although they are generally just full of mayonnaise.

Salad's ace. Sometimes with stuff, sometimes just by itself with a nice dressing sparingly applied. How anyone who doesn't eat any greens can still be alive over the age of 20 is beyond me. Allied to this, they clearly have no taste buds.

I have to admit to only really appreciating salads after reading one of Jamie Oliver's book. No longer do I see it as a crappy bit of iceberg, tomato and cucumber on the side of a plate but as an ace bit of grub.

 

Yesterday's tea was a light salad after a big dinner; spinach, peas, croutons, crispy bacon and a poached egg with an olive oil and red wine vinegar dressing. Have that.
