Gazza is off again, it seems...

Former England soccer star Paul Gascoigne has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act, sources said today. He was detained after Northumbria Police were called last night to a hotel in Gateshead.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Police attended the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead yesterday evening after we received a report of concern for a 40-year-old man staying at the hotel."

"The man was detained under the Mental Health Act and no-one was injured during the incident."

Gascoigne has had a troubled history of emotional instability and erratic behaviour.

Once regarded as one of the world's best footballers, Gascoigne's playing career was plagued by personal problems, many linked to his heavy drinking.

He has has been treated on a number of occasions for drink and mental health problems.

In 2005, he was hospitalised with pneumonia, sparking fears over his long-term health, and last year he underwent emergency surgery for a perforated stomach ulcer.

He has also had several run-ins with the police over the years.

It isn't sad at all. Nobody forced him to shove huge amount of drink down his throat. Nobody forced him to use drugs. Nobody forced him to beat the shit out of his wife. And nobody forced him to play for Everton.

But all of those are symptoms of what's clearly a long-term illness. (Especially the last one).

If people around him had acted to get him some treatment during his playing days instead of indulging him as a simple clown he might have found some stability. He looked like he had tourettes back in his Spurs days. The bleak thing is he's in a worse state now than George Best used to be, because at least Best could do media work when he was off the sauce. Gascoigne can't do anything.

I wish him all the best. He's a really likeable fella, but he's cleary off his tits. His autobiography is a brilliant read, it is helplessly candid and almost reads like a suicide note.

I hope he sorts himself out.

I concur, enthralling read.

Let's just say there's no such thing as an innocent party in that case; but it's not like the media would give such an impression.

Gascoigne has been exploited by many individuals close to him simply for financial reasons. Being as fragile and, well, "trusting" as he is, it's rare for him to say no. He's led astray too often and not enough is being done to prevent it by those who should know better. He has serious mental issues and those responsible in exploiting him should be ashamed.

For example, it's a fact that one semi-famous "celebrity" (famous for her apparent lack of driving skills, Celebrity Love Island and satisfying the needs of perverts in Nuts/FHM), recently got in touch with Mr. Gascoigne asking to go for "a drink." Yes, a drink, and yes; the same person who bleated about bearing witness to the aforementioned domestic violence. Bizarre how this flies out of the window when it comes to hoping to get one's self into the papers of down-market gossip tabloids and magazines. This is the kind of crazy world he inhabits.

He needs to start cutting out the huge numbers of negative influences he has around him before he can even contemplate getting better.
