The Things About Football That Make You Realise You’re Old As Fuck Thread

Recommended Posts

If I was with my dad I went on the Kop, but on my own I started my supporting mainly in the Boys Pen. You would never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. Slightly later at about 14 I started going away on the notorious football specials, being marched through boring city centres being gawked at by peasants, bricked by mutants  and walloped by police, and I loved it all.

The other week I was offered a free ticket for one of the Europa hone games with a promised lift door to door, and couldn't be arsed because it was cold. I have become a disgrace to our wonderful club.

It used to be when all the players were younger than me. Now most the coaches are younger than me. Soon it’ll be most the stadiums will be younger than me.

It was sobering to see Jayden Danns' dad is younger than me.

I remember that day being steak and blowjob day, something for the men exactly a month after valentines day. I didn't get either that day and I assume its died a death, certainly not a tradition I'm my gaf.

When lads would walk in front of the kop with a tray of Mars bars and wrigleys chewing gum,and you had to catch his attention, throw him the coins and he would launch your purchase up to you.!

The old joke was,I went for a trial for Liverpool but I couldn't throw the Mars bars far enough!!

Started going in the mid eighties. Was lucky enough to see Kenny play before he retired. Even though I was (and still am) a short arse, absolutely loved the shared experience of standing on the Kop. Never ended up in the spec I started in and missed half the goals, but would take that over sitting in the stands any day.

My Dad started taking me in 1965. On his shoulders in the Kop as a two year old and regularly after that. Went to my first match on my own 10 years later.

Always the same speck, centre of the goal between the two stanchions. I loved the standing Kop.

I remember watching this at home, my missus upstairs in early labour saying we need to get in the car to the women's hospital, we went just after the final whistle.

My youngest was born in the early hours after.

My youngest is also 15 tomorrow!

Paid 50p to get in the Anny Road - 1971 v Leicester 3-2. Also - I was allowed to take in a home made wooden ‘step’ to help me see better. Imagine trying to take a few bits of nailed-together 4x2 wooden blocks into the ground now! Also - I was able to leave that step in the same spot and it would still be there at every home game throughout the season.

Haha, I stood on a stool for my first game in '78 in the Paddock against 'Boro. Fell off it when we scored the second goal too.
