Not a big fan of Gakpo as an 8. Really hope this is just a temporary thing because we would ideally want Mac Allister in that spot as soon as we have Endo ready to start. Gakpo was already doing a decent job as a false nine, we should have him back there as soon as possible.

I'm hoping to see this at some point for midfield and attack. If Klopp keeps sticking with this team though (doubtful now that Endo is here) maybe it'll happen occasionally with the first 2nd half subs :

--------------------endo

------------mac------------gakpo

--mo--------------nunez---------------diaz

Real surprise. During the week, Thiago was looking more likely to be in the squad for this game. Really seems Bajcetic has come from nowhere to take that spot on the bench. Maybe they've just decided to give Thiago more time since we now have Endo available.

Aye who knows....Given neither of them have kicked a ball even in a friendly for months i wouldn't expect either to walk straight back into side - Thiago hasn't started a game for us since February, Bajcetic not since March.

They haven't really had much of pre season training either so expect both to be nursed back gently.

Yeah, same old nonsense as being forced to play Fabinho at centre half a couple of years ago. It has an obvious knock-on effect elsewhere.

With Bajcetic and Endo in the frame, this should be the last game of it.

I mean, on ball Gakpo is not really an 8, he is a 10 as part of the box. He is still playing in between the lines as he would if he was a false 9 in a 4-3-3.

Off ball, it is definitely more complicated, though.

I think most, myself included are judging it based on his performance playing there last week, he was very ineffectual. It was Chelsea away though, which is always going to be a tough game.

Yeah, but we had none of the ball. We will have way more possession in this game. Its a wait and see for me.

Yep. If the game gets a bit chaotic though, which it generally does for us in spells thats were we may struggle defensively without the third 'proper' midfielder.

Hopefully we batter these, that'd certainly help.

Thats true, although Klopp seems convinced by his comments post Chelsea and pre this one that our problem was with the ball at Chelsea, and us hoofing it too much. So if we can keep the ball better and have Gakpo as an extra option between the lines, in theory that will help us.

Anyway, even if this is ultimately a short term solution, its something Klopp came up with in pre season and he likely was not going to drop it after one game.

Klopp does not fancy Nunez at all

I was thinking that, but Klopp raved about him after the Benfica game at Anfield.

Personally i'd start him instead of Jota i just think he offers the ball in behind but he is a bit erratic.
