Main present was off the daughter, an overnight dinner, bed and breakfast stay with spa treatments at the Titanic Hotel in early Jan. Paco Rabanne Millions shower gel and deodorant from the Mrs. Various sweet stuff ( Toblerone, Baklava, Turkish Delight ).

No parents left and have more or less stopped the presents between us and sisters and brothers as it was getting too expensive.

I got nothing from the wife and a coffee mug as a shared present from my boys.

This is a step up from the two cards I received for my 50th in October so I’m understandably feeling spoilt today.

To be honest, I don’t care about presents. They fill me with shame.

Have you got any biscuits in? If so, put the kettle on, make yourself a nice cup of tea and get the delicious bastards dunked.

@YorkshireRed By the way, what’s your opinion on fruit cake eaten with cheese? Is it a Yorkshire thing? I’d never heard of it until I moved to York, and am yet to try it.

I’m in favour. I enjoy both things separately, but adding them together is a small part of the magic of Christmas.

p.s. I only recently realised this was considered a Yorkshire thing. I’d thought everyone was at it. A bit like ferret racing and being careful with money.

What type of cheese do you have?

I wouldn't recommend it with Gorgonzola but a  bit of crumbly white cheese like Cheshire or Wensleydale its good. I Remember my Gran used to like it but as a kid I thought it was gross .

Wensleydale is nice as is Cheshire but the king of crumbly cheeses has to be crumbly Lancashire.
