Dejan Lovren

Easy to look good when you're allowed to get away with 3 handballs a game.

Also easy to look good when you've got Matic in front of you breaking up play and a big groc next to you at right back. Put Cahill in our side with our current system and he would look shit because he would be exposed just like our centre halves are.

Exactly.

Lovren is never worth 20 million but he's not rubbish.  I would put probably 80% of the responsibility for our defensive woes on our midfield; we simply put our centre backs in positions where it's virtually impossible to succeed.  Put Matic in our lineup where Gerrard is and Lovren would look like a decent player.

As has been said elsewhere, when we're scoring 4 or 5 every game, it hardly matters that our midfield doesn't offer any kind of shield.  When we struggle to score 1, it matters hugely.

Did you write this Brigant, did not realise he was this bad in France. He seems to be a bit of a mental midget ie crumbles under pressure according to that.

Jesus I know anything can be twisted a certain way but that doesn't make for good reading judging by some of his career highlights there

Id never seen him play in France, and only caught the odd game of Southampton last year. So i had a pretty open mind about what sort of player we were buying.

At the end of the day when you spend £20 Million pound on a defender your expecting him to be pretty special.

I think someones head will roll for this signing, whether its someone in the infamous "Transfer Committee" or the Manager himself.

Yep. The reports on him were alarming. The only Croat I know winces every time he sees him on the national team sheet. An odd buy for £20m on the back of 6 good months.

Not that odd when you consider Carroll and Downing were also signed due to 6 months of half decent/good performances.  We really don't make any sense if the transfer market.
