Did y'all know that we have reached Peak Beard?

We have some big beards news for you today (by which we mean big news regarding beards, not news about over-sized beards) (this post is off to a great start): When beards become too popular, they are actually less attractive to people, according to science.

(continued)

With this in mind I had a clean shave last week for the first time in ages. I bought a razor that you put a battery in and it vibrates as you shave. It's fucking boss.

4 shaves per blade? I change the blade after every shave, no matter what brand it is. The thickness of my stubble blunts it after 2-3 passes. The Derby blades only work out about 10p a blade.

Seriously? Those Mach blades are hardcore. I can only deduce that you are Superman!

I can light matches on my stubble it's so tough. Probably.

Try hammering it through, then chewing it off from the inside. Hashtagrealman

No blades to dispose of with this beauty. Made by the Flaschner family, six generations of master craftsmen expertise and one of the handful of independents still around.

Removed a large portion of my face getting used to it, but love it now

I don't have the manual dexterity to use something like that without beheading myself, but I will say that is one fine looking piece of kit. I would own one just to look at it.

Stupid Question lads. I left my washbag in gym over weekend and needing a shave bought a Wilkinson safety razor. Face in tatters but want to persevere.

My question is how do you dispose of old blades? Fairly dangerous to just through in bin.

  • 3 weeks later...

Following the advice on here, I switched to feather blades and after a few early nicks am now enjoying the double whammy of a proper close shave plus not having to spunk a fortune into the pockets of Gillette every few weeks. Like others have said, I do actually enjoy shaving now.

I still don't feel I get a close enough shave with the Edwin Jagger. Anybody recommend something a little more aggressive?

I picked up a fancy brush (Edwin Jagger Best Black Badger) and some Taylor of Old Bond Street cream (Sandlewood... not mad on the scent). Now looking at three different razors to complement my EJ DE98. First is the Muhle R41, then two slants: the Merkur 37x and the Merkur 39c.

I went with the 37c slant. Anybody tried one?

No, haven't tried one. I love a traditional shave but it takes so much time I rarely bother now, just busy all the time. I do want to get another one though and use it more frequently. I've got my eye on this Merkur travel razor simply because it looks ace.
