I get laid far more if I'm clean shaven, I don't like it but you do the math.

Apparently the stubble irritates.

I did try and point out so did her nagging but that didn't help either.

How is that nagging? Her telling you her preference works in your interest, no?

  • 2 weeks later...

Think this may be a time for me to get on board.

I get laid far more if clean shaven so she gets what she wants and I get what I want. However, disposable blades out here are £2 a pop and thats for the cheapest gillette blades I can get.

She's been home for a couple of weeks so I hadn't had a shave until last night and it took two blades to get only a half decent shave, so £4 is in the bin already, I can't afford that and I'm not going to get laid less so I need an alternative.

So as a novice, what kit do I need and where should I start?

EDIT: Yes I'm a lazy cunt and it's probably all explained in this thread but like fuck am I reading 19 pages to look for what I want.

There's all kinds of cool shit you can buy, but essentially you just need a double edged razor with blades, a brush and some shaving cream. I wouldn't recommend shelling out a load of money until you've tried it and then you can upgrade bits and pieces if you feel like it.

For a razor I'd start with the Edwin Jagger, it's only £24 but it's a very good razor, I'm still using mine years later. Get the one in the link because it's got a lined handle, they do one with a smooth handle, but the last thing you want is one of these slipping when you're shaving.

For the blades I'd just go for the Derby blades at first, good cut and just under £7 for a hundred. http://www.amazon.co.uk/DERBY-EXTRA-DOUBLE-SAFETY-BLADES/dp/B00LK8USOO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1433584457&sr=8-3&keywords=double+edge+razor+blades

You can always upgrade the blades to better quality at a later point, but honestly these will probably do you fine.

Shaving Cream you can't go wrong with the Taylors of Old Bond Street sandalwood shaving cream at £8.50 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Taylor-Old-Bond-Street-Sandalwood/dp/B0007MW2ZW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1433584551&sr=8-1&keywords=taylors+of+old+bond+street+sandalwood

I've tried loads of other ones and find this is still the best.

And a brush. There are loads of different types but the Badger hair ones are the best and I'd go for this Edwin Jagger one, £22 with a stand as well which comes in handy http://www.amazon.co.uk/Edwin-Jagger-Badger-Shaving-Brush/dp/B003UV8LOS/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1433584625&sr=8-6&keywords=shaving+brush

I've got one of these shaving mugs as well http://www.amazon.co.uk/M%C3%BChle-White-Porcelain-Shaving-Mug/dp/B003ANWIFE/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1433584747&sr=8-13&keywords=muhle which is good, but you can mix the cream in your hand or in a normal cup while you see if it's what you want and buy one of these later.

Check out this fella's YouTube channel for tips. Very good https://www.youtube.com/user/mantic59

Don't get me wrong you can buy more expensive blades, I like the Merkur ones but even they work out less than a pound a blade, but those Derby ones will do you fine. You don't look like you have very thick stubble so they'll fly through it.

Might cost you about £60 initially to get set up but after that should last you about a year before you have to buy anything else. And it feels great when you've used the sandalwood cream rather than supermarket foam.

Not really, if it's very long like approaching a beard you'll have to trim it off first before shaving but normal stubble it'll go through no problem. If you watch the videos you'll see you have to do a few passes to get the best shave so it might just mean going over it a few times.

Don't go for the Derby blades, they're wank. Get Astra superior platinum. Amazing blade. Cheap, sharp and smooth.
