Watching Planet of the apes with my missus and she says she can't take it seriously cause of how fake it looks and hasn't heard of Charlton Heston before.  Younger models have their benefits but she doesn't have make me feel old at times.   Similar conversation  about Robocop, Commando, Predator and other 80's classics.

What's the age difference?

What's the age difference?

21-31. Ten years.

Whilst planet of the apes is well before my time. I grew up watching that and black and white reruns of the lone ranger on chanel four.

It'd be hard to get her to watch Schindler's list, never mind something from the 60's.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm back at a college I last attended in 1994. Last week I was sat next to a lass who was still four years off being born then.

See also needing proof of long since lost exam certificates for admission, and when pointing out I took them there so surely they should be able to get hold of them, being told "We don't hold records THAT far back."

Was chatting to the Mrs about this the other day, and for all the moaning/joking about age I do I wouldn't change anything. I love the 80s and am glad I was around to see then, I feel lucky I'm old enough to remember the concept of 'playing out' as a kid, but am glad I missed the advent of mobile and social media technology when I was a teenager - that must be absolute hell. Also glad I was in my early 20s when everyone decided drinking 20 pints a night and falling asleep in your own sick was tremendous craic, rather than going for a Botswanan blend of coffee that's been shat out by a bat, but absolutely no way would I want to be a student now with these debts - or out on the lash every weekend either. Everything happened at just the right time.
