I'll be happy when someone suggests that Bowen would not be a player to replace Mo.

What if Diaz eventually replaces Mo and the focus is down the left so Bowen became the more functional counterweight to that on the right?

'Technically' he'd be the replacement for Salah in the Soccer Saturday school of analysis but he wouldn't really.

Ouch, that's got to hurt.

That's not a slight at anyone on here by the way, just that the view will be that because Salah played on the right and Bowen plays on the right then Bowen is Salah's exact replacement rather than just positionally similar.

Fabinho?? He has never played RB for us. Gomez is the back up.

Unless Trent picks up a long term injury RB is the least of our worries.

He has missed 4 league games in the last three years.

Where should our worries be focused so, if the one position we don't have like-for-like cover for isn't one?

Is there a like for like replacement for Trent that would be willing to come in and play backup?

As good as Andy Robertson is his skills are far more transferable than Trent's are which is why we managed to get Tsimikas in, but at right back we'll always be settling and making sacrifices.

Unless we totally change the way we play for, Diaz to replace Mo we'd need Haaland up top.

You could replace Mo with Diaz and Bowen and it wouldn't replicate what Mo gives.

Going to be tough to find a replacement that exactly mirrors what Mo gives in the same position playing in the same style. We change the way we play most seasons with tactical tweaks changing the way we play, the Elliot/Trent/Salah triangle seemed to be this years prior to the injury.

What if Diaz or Jota develop to a similar level?

We’re not going to replace what Mo produces if he leaves. There’s not a player out there who can do what he does. If he goes it’s going to be for £100m+ with a year on his contract, there’s few players that can command such a fee. What we do with that sort of money is anyone’s guess but I’d say it’ll be spread across two of three very good players who significantly strengthen us in other areas like we did with the Coutinho money.

If we're adding to midfield, Henderson can play back up RB.

There, I said it.

I said it years ago it's his best postition especially with what or lack thereof he offers in midfield now days.

We should just buy Djed Spence for right back.

Midfield.

There is no like for like for Trent.

Who is your like-for-like for Fabinho?

Again, it woudn't be a like for like, but a trio of say Henderson/Thiago/Elliott would probably work well and leave us less exposed than most options at right back would. I think Milner would be the best option there if needed, as limitations aside, he can actually cross a ball.

So why are you worried about a like for like RB backup?

Henderson as the DM is no better than Gomez at RB.

He's vastly better, and therein lies the problem. Gomez is never a full back, certainly not in the way Trent or Robbo have reimagined the position under Klopp.

On it like a rash and sign that cunt Bowen.

Iro Jarod Bowen, I like him too but I think his skillset is more comparable to Jota than either Mo or Sadio. His just hasn't got the blistering pace that Kloppo seems to favour in our wide forwards.

I haven't watched him that closely.

The crux of it all is sign Mo up.

Kieron Trippier is the best like for like backup for Trent. He's an excellent freekick taker and crosser of the ball. He's also shown for Newcastle, in the couple of games he's played, that he's a leader. The problem is twofold, 1. Newcastle don't look like they are getting relegated and 2. would he come to play as a backup?

Max Aaron's would be a good signing as well. Not because he's great or anything, but because he's young, played over 150 games and he's just turned 22. He was easily the best right back in the Championship last season.
