Van Dijk has been better in the last few matches. He's having a strange season.

Himself and Konate work well together. The Man City game aside, Gomez has really struggled in the middle this season and Matip's been injured for a fair while now.

He is brilliant at the back. Think once we have sorted the midfield people will really switch on to how good he and Virgil are fir us.

I know I have said it before though but once Matip is fit, if we are still getting overrun in midfield and are unable to bring in a midfielder I would be inclined to have a look at him in the holding role as a short term fix.

I think the defence would be ok with Matip in their but his physical presence and ball winning ability could be huge in midfield. Not forgetting his ability to stride forward with it. Put it another way, I don't see it would make them worse in there. I get that we are playing a high line but the echo have just done an article saying that a lot of the fires he is extinguishing are coming in the midfield area anyway.

I think that a big part of FSG's 'smartest guys in the room' policy is to buy players with dubious injury records. Since the halcyon days of the largely uninjured Wiji,Mane,Salah,Alisson et al,we've just signed a conveyor belt of crocks. Matip on a free was worth a punt but seemingly since Jota most have been wounded players. Maybe this was why deals were negotiated to FSG's liking?
