This is not the point though.

Konate has to be rested constantly so he does not get injured again, he cannot play 2 games in a season. His appearances in PL:

21/22: 11

22/23: 18

23/24: 20

Don’t spit facts.

Size of the lad and he can’t play two games a week.

Thinking size intrinsically means more durable is about where your knowledge of this sort of stuff is.

Hes centre half. You cant be a centre half if you are made out of baked beans and cant survive, you know, physicality.

It's funny to read some posts here. Of course we all love Konate, he can be absolutely immense but it's taking the piss when a professional footballer cannot play 2 games in most weeks.

And not just any game, but against THEM, THERE, at the business end of the season.

It's fucking go time and he's got his feet up!

What IS a pretty regular occurence with athletes Konate's size who are fast twitch, is that they get a lot of muscle injuries. Hamstrings in particular are vulnerable. Given that he plays in the toughest league in the world, and has been playing regular top flight and international football for 4-5 (?) years as a CB already, it's no wonder he has had injuries. He has had to be matched carefully, which is what you would expect of a young CB in a tough (Bundesliga) and even tougher (PL) league. Having Gomez and Qansah to rotate him with this year has been nice, next year and the year after he should be entering the prime years as a CB. Fair to say we might expect more from him then.

As a comparison Virgil was playing for Utrecth and Celtic at the same time as Konate has racked up appearances in the BL and PL (and national team). In my view the ever more money-driven football industry, the type of career path Virgil has had is more and more unlikely to occur unfortunately. Players are given much too big a workload too early as everyone wants to put their big talents in the shop-window, and with results being more and more important at all levels of the game, players are the ones suffering by playing way too much too early. I have no doubts the reason Virgil and Salah have been going for as long as they have without major injuries is that their minutes were managed more sensibly at the start of their careers. We've seen this movie before as Liverpool supporters, Gomez, Martin Kelly among the defenders, and Fowler, Owen, Torres among the forwards. All had their careers cut short (hopefully not so much Gomez) cut short and decimated by injuries due to the club putting them through too many matches too early.

Just as an aside, wonder what would be the reaction to another assault to Virgil's knees like the one Konate was on the receiving end of on Tuesday.

Is he playing with a trapped nerve in his neck?

I don't think he even looked to the right today, never mind passing the ball that way when Bradley was in acres of space.  Instead, he kept playing short passes infield, into an over-crowded midfield; y'know, because that tactic was such a fucking runaway success on Thursday.

That's 3 full games now, hopefully he's ok for the next too. With our defence looking more sorted out maybe we can focus more on attack and try to work out how to get scoring goals again.

He even played a few passes to the right last night.  If he'd tried that at all (to Elliott v Atalanta and Bradley v Palace) we might be in a significantly different position now.

Wonder if he’s been dropped or got another slight injury?

He was on the bench both against West Ham and Tottenham.

If we could get good money for Konate, I think I would have given Matip an extension in some kind of pay as you play deal and sold Konate.

Never really been impressed by him.

He's young and very highly rated in France.

If PSG were to waltz in and offer us £70m then he's gone in a heartbeat as far as I'm concerned.

We could use that money to spend on a striker who can score goals.

If PSG offered 60ml I'd let him go. I like him, he's a good player but if you can't play 2 games in a week move on.

We ha e been linked with the young lad at Sporting Diomande who would cost similar.

And then we'd only have two reliable centre halves and a cover defender for about 60 games next season.

I dont think a new CB should be anywhere near a priority. Quansah is the guy now. I'd offer Matip a new 12 month deal if Konate was sold but you'd expect Joemez to be the back up to Virg and Jarrell.

Use the money to buy the lad from Feyernood who scores for fun.

Easy this management lark like

I think klopp sees quansah ahead of konate now.

The one thing you can't call konate is reliable though.

I sort of agree that we should look to cash in.

Injuries have fucked us so much this year and injury prone players only ever tend to get even more injury prone over time.

PSG would be a good move all round.

They could manage his gametime a lot better too.

I like him but he needs a few games to look the player he is and then inevitably gets injured.

I'd sell for good money and buy a top replacement. Agree about keeping Big Bird here on a pay as you play. We do need numbers because Gomez is injured regularly and Virgil isn't getting younger. Matip would be bound to pick up a knock at some point.

Quansah is going to be top class imo. He could become world class but I definitely feel him, just like Bradley, will become a very good player and that's a good result for us this season moving forward. If we could just find a Fowler or Owen clone in the academy now.

The lad from Atalanta and then Calvert Lewin bashed him like he had lost his core strength. Something very weird about both those games. I said a couple of months back that I thought Klopp now sees him as a Thursday footballer, that looks to have played out.

I agree, but his stints in the team at stages during the season would need to be replaced. VVD,Quansah and Joe Gomez is hardly an ideal CB set of choices for so many games.

I'm not suggesting we sell him and do nothing. That would be madness. But to sell him and replace him could make perfect sense. Even if it means we need 2 centre backs this summer because slot doesn't see Gomez in that position, I think that's ok. But if slot does see Joe as a centre back a 4 of vvd, Gomez, quansah and another would be fine I think providing the player we bring in has a history of getting on the pitch regularly.
