I may be wrong too but if they're part of the federal gov then I think part of that $750 billion could go towards them being better prepared for stuff like this.

They have their own budget which is a point of serious debate here as it has grown massively in the 2000's to the point where they are struggling to come up with accountability as to where it all goes. It has nothing to do with the Defense Dept budget.

I think I read she was opposed to the guard deployment, so they initially sent only MPD. The impression from watching the DC press conference yesterday was that there was a lot of politicking going on over this along with various authority and responsibility clashes, as per usual in the US. She began the conference with a demand they get statehood for DC, whatever that means in practical terms.

C'mon man - you can't be serious. It was planned months in advance, advertised by Trump himself in advance, then on the day and they had already reacted to BLM folks outside the White House and throughout DC in a very different way. It took them an hour to get to the Capitol, then another 90 minutes for it to kickoff. The White House specifically prevented local and federal law support for another two hours as it was going on.
