Welcome to the new and improved TLW!

Some of you may experience issues logging in and will get an 'incorrect password' error. Don't worry, you haven't typed it in wrong and your password hasn't been changed. You will need to reset it though in order to log in. Click the reset password link and you will receive an email with your new temporary password. Once logged in, you need to choose a new password (or restore to your old one) otherwise you will be locked out again.

If you have an out of date email address linked to your account, then you won't receive the new password. If that's the case then you'll need to email me (dave @liverpoolway.co.uk) or send me a tweet @theliverpoolway and I'll update your password manually.

Any other problems or questions just let me know.

Thanks

I think he's probably better than them.

But I think any of Carvalho, Hyypia, Josemi, Ferdinand, or Stam would be the 2nd best centreback in the league now. Campbell, Adams, a few others would have a shout as well.

Why, you little scamp...

Vidic was excellent when not playing us. My favourite type of player.

Very nearly ours too but we signed Agger instead.

Sami Hyypia was the best centre half in the league for a number of years.  Van Dijk is one of the most complete defenders I’ve ever seen.

Love Sami, and like Van Dijk he transformed our defence when he arrived.

But like you say, Van Dijk is far more complete. Main difference being pace and quick feet. A fast version of Hyypia if you like, which is quite something.

I think Sami was probably too - Campbell, Terry, Stam? For sure.

Ferdinand is a shout but not on VvD. Who else really, Carvalho? Vidic?

I think Terry and Carvalho were the best of that lot. Adams and Keown were pretty decent too.

To the tune of let's go fly a kite from Mary Poppins.

Let's go buy Van Dijk

He'll keep it nice and tight

Let's go buy Van Dijk

And send it soaring

Up to the atmosphere

That's where he'll head it clear

Let's all go buy Van Dijk.

Thank you and goodnight.

Best. In. The. World.

And it's not even a question. He's the best defender in the world. His positioning, his passing, his speed, strength, in the air, on the floor. He's the perfect defender. Truly world class.

You forgot his lovely bone structure.

If he would've popped in that 30 yarder, they would've had to check if he was human. His combo of size, pace, technique and positioning is unfair.

Best defender in the world. One of a handful of top players in the world. Utterly majestic. The Captain.

I think he's the best I've ever seen. Seriously.

He smells lovely according to Troy Deeney. Probably has a bath in Creed Aventis or some expensive Tom Ford stuff before he gets changed.

Absolutely ridiculous the difference one player can make.

Just like Suarez raised the standard of all our attacking players, he turns competent defenders into world-beaters.

Only having caught the very tail end of Lawro and Hansen as a 7 year old he is the best defender I have  seen at the club. Only one coming close is big Sami.

Best back 5 I have seen in my time

Reina still just pips Alisson for me on longevity.

Anyone else think Virgil was a little naughty with that challenge on Mertens? It was something Ramos might have done to the opponent's main man early doors. Lucky not to walk.

In before you need a bit of that etc.
