Hmm. Decent little player when the team plays well but he's hardly going to win us games when we're playing badly is he? This summer was the right time to sell.

you're only saying that because he's really white. Our most important player to the way Klopp wants us to play, apart from possibly Mane.  Klopp's not soft.

Having said all that, he may just be looking to get a decent wedge for him when he ships him out on the first day of the next transfer window after being put straight by the sages on TLW and Dave's mum.  You can never tell.

Well its Klopp who is securing them. But its interesting that Shankly \ Paisely \ Fagan etc ethos of not needing super star players is now giving way to the idea we need 'special' players.

It's not about superstars it's about raw ability. We had plenty of players under those managers who were in the absolute top bracket of world football. I'd say the only one we've got approaching that now is Mane.

Happy that Lallana is locked in . I have always rated him and whilst he's no superstar the lad is definitely good enough to be part of the team for the next few seasons; possibly even as captain, We need a few better players too but having some stability is just as important,

That's my point. You say it isnt about superstars but that's what the best players become, the very thing you're arguing against. Dont you think it strange that we won 11 titles since the 1960's without absolute top bracket players in world football yet when we had the likes of judas, suarez, alonso to name a few, we were generally nowhere near?

As we know, Shankly's ethos which passed through the club to successive managers was not building a team around superstars. It was about building a team ethos and that no one player was a superstar.

didnt win a league title with Liverpool.

Turns out he has a few of those too - so probably more of an indictment of LFC than the argument against superstars.

The fact that someone would expect  him to is at the root of the problem for this club.

No he doesnt have a league title with Liverpool and you're massively missing my point or rather the point another poster was making.

We won plenty with top drawer players, Steven Gerrard's two final performances for example, Owen in the FA Cup against Arsenal. And Liverpool have always had top drawer players, from Hansen and Dalglish to Barnes and Rush.

This is the first era we arguably have none, and that's why we can only go so far each year before we come a cropper.

There's simply no substitute for class players.

The point Im trying to convey is that the club won all if not most of its league titles without so called superstars. Players we considered greats like hansen, lawler, dalglish, st john, hunt, hughes, cormack etc were not considered to be elevated from those contemporary players of other clubs.

Times when we have had probable 'superstars' have not garnered any league titles. The fact is, we've attained success in knock out competitions and not the marathon of a league.

It depends who you define as class players and whether the likes of Lallana, Firmino, etc are the status equals of st john and keegan etc or the judas and suarez etc.

Suarez isnt a Judas at all. He gave everything for us and was a Uruguayan playing in the English League using it as a stepping stone to a potential massive club like Barca or Real. We were very lucky to have him and he doesnt deserve a Judas tag. Thats something that 10 year olds who are brainwashed with the 'best league in the world' garbage.

Perhaps you should read properly and notice the comma?
