Jordon Ibe to face trial over crashing Bentley into coffee shop

The Premier League player Jordon Ibe will face trial for allegedly driving away after crashing his Bentley into a coffee shop this summer.

The Bournemouth midfielder, 23, is accused of driving off after ploughing into The Pantry on Plaistow Lane in Bromley, south-east London, in the early hours of 30 July.

The building was so badly damaged the shop front had to be removed from its foundations to render it safe. A Mercedes parked in front of the shop also suffered minor damage.

Ibe appeared at Bromley magistrates court on Wednesday, where he denied failing to stop at the scene of an accident. He did not enter a plea to a second charge of driving without due care and attention.

Ibe, who signed for Bournemouth from Liverpool in 2016 for a reported £15m fee, was charged via postal requisition on 29 October.

Prosecutor George Crivelli said the white Bentley Bentayga 4x4 had remained at the scene for a few minutes before reversing and driving off after the crash at about 4.50am.

Crivelli said: “The defendant has been involved in a collision – his vehicle has left the road, collided with a parked car and crashed into a shop front. The vehicle remained for a short period before driving off.”

The prosecutor said no one had left any details or made themselves known to police.

Ibe’s car also suffered significant damage, with part of it left in the rubble of the shop front, the court heard.

Jonathan Morrissey, defending, said the player claims he waited for a reasonable length of time and nobody made themselves available to exchange details.

Listing the case for trial on 10 February at Bexley magistrates court, magistrate Philip Widdowson said: “If you fail to attend, you could be committing an offence for which you could be arrested, fined or sent to prison. If you commit a sentence while on bail your sentence will be greater.”

Ibe, of Poole, Dorset, was accompanied to court by a friend.

Jesus, what a dickhead. Sounds like he might have been under the influence.

Remember when Sterling left there were some fans who said it didn't matter because we had Ibe. Hmm.

I was one of them. Was convinced he’d go on to be a better player. Not holding out too much hope for that anymore

Mate he ordered a coffee in Bromley. He probably asked for a flat white to go and was stood there 4 hours later still waiting for them to count the bubbles on the froth for the person before him. I sympathise.

I was always amazed at how little natural footballing talent he had compared to they hype surrounding him. Didn't see it at all. Just a powerful, fast guy who didn't have the first clue what to do with the ball.

Even with that being said, he could have made something of his career as a hard working, physical wide player. Hasn't done that either, it seems. Shame.
