May Day holiday: who's on, who's off

Following some further cost cutting all Bank Holidays, known as Public Holidays here, apart from Christmas, New Year and Easter, were abolished a couple of years ago for us, apart from the schools who continue to accumulate holidays to the point its hardly worth going around this time of year.

So I'm at home, no holiday no need for out of hours staff, minding a child who will sleep til lunchtime.

So, what's it like for you. Have you got the day off or what?

Working 10:00 - 16:00, double time and a day off in lieu.

Bastard. I used to love that little boost to my payslip

Hostage in my own home. Its not gorgeous but its dry so it'll be gardening for me today, I reckon. Those dandelions wont kill themselves

Day off with 90 pieces of coursework (all between 3-8 sides of A4) and two weeks worth of work in 50 exercise books to mark. Then I need to do some lesson planning for this week and also put in a couple of hours on my plans for Year 6/7 transition.

We're out this afternoon so I've been at it since 6am and will probably do more again this evening.

Dont get me wrong, my brother in law and several friends are teachers; I know how hard you work. That list of yours sounds pretty daunting and I'm guessing its a bit galling when everyone thinks you're just living it up on holiday

Grass mown and about to start housework, some friends are coming at 11:30 and we are out to lunch then back home for a BBQ at the neighbours. I promised the wife I'd be socialable in the new house so I've got an afternoon of telling people what I do for a living and pretending to be interested in what they do.

Was offered 07:15 - 22:35 at double time and two days off in lieu but a mate needs to move and her landlord is being a dick with her deposit so let her have it for the money.

Years gone by on a bank holiday I would have done a night shift the night before (double time from midnight) and double backed to do the late and waking night.

18 hours double time.

18 days of overtime done during my 20 day break. On my 2nd day shift today. Been fucking about with cooling tower fans since 7:30 this morning. I'm exhausted. Could fucking murder a beer, but I'd probably fall asleep halfway through.
