Are you a vegetarian?

  1. 1. Are you a vegetarian?

    • Yes, meat is murder
    • No, I love meat me
    • I should consider it really
    • I have no intention of ever entertaining the idea

If they throw out the EU food standards with any brexit deal i will likely stop all meat barring the very odd night out

Some of the processes allowed in US meat industry is fucking disgusting. There will be a massive increase in cancer rates imo 10 years after that shit

Might have to rethink this vegetarian idea.

Just tried 'meat-free mince' tacos and it's the most disgusting thing I've ever eaten.

Are all these meat-alternatives gash? Just bought a fucking weeks worth of the cardboard cunts.

Learn how to use tofu and tempeh. Lovely when done properly.

Naturli mince is decent in lasagnes, etc. Vivera burgers are quite nice.

Try these. http://lindamccartneyfoods.co.uk/our-food/frozen-range/vegetarian-mozzarella-14lb-burgers/

Nicer than normal burgers. Most of the range is pretty good.

I'm a pescatarian, but I'm finding I'm eating less and less fish. Bar the brecky bit of course!

Big fan of those burgers, they often get whacked on the BBQ in the summer for a quick tea. Loaded with cheese and homemade pickles, they're as boss as any burger.

I'm almost at the point of three weeks but so far, doing well.

I think the hardest part of this was making a shift from having meat as the primary item of any meal. It's been pretty challenging trying to find alternatives to meals that I've always enjoyed (trying falafel tacos tonight) but a good challenge if that. I'm trying tofu for the first time at the weekend so hoping I can master the art of that.

There have been a few stumbling blocks that I've had to get over such as eating out at pubs/common restaurants and finding out how shite the vegetarian options are (cheese sandwich or vegetable lasagna anyone?) I'm slowly coming to grips with that but it's pretty difficult if your only option is three varieties of a cheese sandwich (cheese, cheese and tomato, melted cheese with some tomato).

Meals-to-go are another one. Whilst there are some options within the £3 meal deals, it's a fucking poor option. If there's no meal-deal, finding the vegetarian options in say, Aldi, can be a task in itself. I've never realised how many quick-meals are meat-based.

Sweets, another tricky one. I've found that Aldi do a haribo-version that's suitable for veggies. And they're actually nicer too - used to buy them before the switch. Sainsburys also have a decent selection.

Finding the "Suitable for Vegetarians" is starting to become a pet hate of mine. It's in all different areas of the packaging - put it near the fucking ingredients or have a particular place you cunts.

Genuinely never thought I'd make it a month but it's easier than I expected.

I'm at the point now where I hardly even try avoiding gelatine. Nearly every medicine or supplement these days seems to come in a gelatine-based capsule, not to mention the new polymer banknotes. It's an absolute racket and I'm not really willing to forego medical treatment or money to make a point about society's use of animal by-products. Fortunately I hate Haribo anyway.

Other than that, yeah, it's dead easy, although I've had a lifetime of practice, so it would be easy for me.

Tofu is easy mate

You need to remember that its tastes of fuck all really and as long as you you marinade it well and overnight its pretty good. Salt,Pepper and Chilli with fried tofu is good, or marinade in the normal chinese spices works too.

Got some of that Levi Roots Jerk Sauce and was thinking of throwing it in that overnight. I know nothing about tofu but is it a season thing or will it eat the fucking sauce like a sponge?

It will soak some of it up but thats a thick sauce so should be ok, probably won't hurt to thin it a little with a touch of water

Also, I mentioned this in passing before but this is worth a go for thing like lasagne and cottage pie or whatever, it's much more like mince than the Quorn mince, which I do like OK too.

Tends to be in the meat aisle rather than at the veggie section.
