Cost depends a lot on when you book, advance are a lot cheaper. What time you need to go and what day of the week.

Looks like there's at least one change depending on what train you get.

So 3h 30 mins, at least one stop and the cheapest fare with a return is £55,

ah well.

Dont think I save enough on that one to bother with 7 hours on the train.

Ryanair it is then I guess even if I`m trying to boycott them for having bolted seats, the cheap fuckers.

I've managed to get tickets to newscastle pretty cheap before. You do need to spend a bit of time trawling through thr trainline site though.

Best thing to do is to pick single journeys

Liverpool - york

York - newcastle

Buy single tickets for each part rather than returns/open return.

The same coming home, buy each one individually.

Sometimes its also worth checking out liverpool-leeds then leeds-newcastle.

Like I said, takes a bit of effort but can really bring the price down.

On the same date as posted above - May 4th if you buy two single journeys its

£11 - Lpool-york

£9 - York - newcaslte

Certainly a lot better than the £60 quoted above

Much appreciated mate.

I`ll have a look.

Yeah it's completly daft.

I'd love to have the knowhow to create a website where it does all of that for you and could plot out the cheapest route. People would be a lot more likely to use the trains if they thought they were getting value for money and not being ripped off.

I'm claiming intellectual property on it now just incase anyone goes and makes millions off the back of my amazing idea.

  • 1 year later...
From Helicopters to the bus, how the mighty have fallen.

Haha.

You have a point, but until I get the money from the apartement I've sold I'll stick to the train/bus.

As long as I can get from A to B in reasonable time I'll always go for the cheapest option.
