Mascherano at right back...

Is it just me or does anyone else think Mascherano could be the world's best right back?

 

Fantastically tenacious, bags of energy, good in the tackle, great at hussling, strong, relatively mobile. I think he's the ideal solution when Arbeloa isn't fi or even when The Chief isn't playing in midfield.

Paul, why do you feel that? I can't see an aspect of the position that he wouldn't be good at. He has great stamina and the ability to get up and down too.

I think he'd do a very good job (without having seen him cross the ball very often). I just saw your "world's best right back" line and saw an opportunity for a Mike from The Young Ones quote in response to a post from a Bottom afficianado such as yourself.

I want players playing in the positions they were bought for. That means Skrtel at centre back, Mascherano in the middle and Kuyt up front. Although Kuyt would not be a first choice for me in either position, i'd rather have him up front as the second striker than on the right wing. And as much as Masch has looked alright at right back so far, it's a last resort only for me.

Very good performance tonight, hardly his fault if Reid is shit. Always thought he had the qualities to a decent job at right-back. Definitely showed much more purpose in his overlapping runs than Arbeloa.
