Has anybody heard of the mayday for nurses appeal, basicaly it asks people to donate a days wages (peanuts to premiership footballers) to a fund set up to help trainee nurses who get into financial difficulties in the first few years of their careers.

Nigel Reo-Coker has (uncharactaristicly) launched the appeal and asked all 556 Premiership players to donate, many havnt yet and not a single liverpool player so far!!!!

We should follow suit with the Reading squad whom every member of has donated a days pay.

I along with many thounsands of others (less well off folk) have allready signed up so whats wrong with these greedy footballers!!!!

Why just nurses? Don't teachers do equally valid work and get paid about the same to start and put up with even more shit. Cleaners too. There are a million jobs out there that are low paid and in which people struggle.

I've heard this nonsense about footballers before as well. What makes them more responsible or greedy than anyone else? Don't they pay their taxes to fund the payment of nurses? I think you are targetting the wrong people for the wrong reasons here. If nurses and such like are struggling then its the government that should be targetted and encouraged to pay them more. Maybe more affordable housing or something like that. This is just a smokescreen to divert real responsibility.

The woman behind this has been on the radio a few times. To be honest I'd tell her to fuck right off if I was a player. She just had this self rightous attitude - coming out with "they can afford it and it's their duty to put back to the community". Twice I've heard her mention none of our players have signed up. She's effectively trying to humiliate them into paying, I think she's out of order - she certainly shouldn't mention who hasn't given her money. If she wants to start and run a charity, fine - but why target one set of people just because they earn good money? Doctors do alright (she's a doctor herself), if they target anyone, they should target them. Keep it up reds a fuck her off.

This thread seems to have raised many issues that were un-intended,

In response to RedNick - yes the goverment should.

To Kelster - All valid points but this is a specific appeal for one group of people and i feel its a worthy cause, it does not suggest other proffessions are any less hard or better paid, just trying to help Nurses.

BarryWom - I havn't heard the woman who is running the whole thing but if thats the attitude she has then yes fuck her (look beyond her and the appeal is still worthwhile). Only due to Reo-Coker's involvment have premiership footballers been bought into it, he has asked all of them to get involved - with quite a poor response.

As i understand many of our players give to various charities allready so may not feel this is something they as individuals wish to be involved in but surley not all of them.

I'm with Jay on this one. My bird has just recently passed her final nursing exam and is struggling to find a job within the NHS. She has been told there may be an offer of a 6 month contract at the beginning of June, this was meant to guaranteed back in November. These nurses have struggled on £450 per month fro 3 years and they have worked hard to be a valuable asset to the nation.

Without nurses there would be no NHS, simple as. Even though the NHS could be worse. The reason these ladies need help is that the government can't do anything as they have employed fat cats who are shite decision makers and get paid brewsties for making stupid mistakes.

Some footballers would never have recovered from bad injuries properly if it wasn't for nurses, so they should at least donate something towards them, especially Harry Kewell and Owen, bet they have their own 999 line direct to Hattie Jaques.

nurses get paid alright these days to be honest. a damn sight better than a lot of people in the NHS anyway. I get kind of sick of the whole poor underpaid angels image the royal college & their unions like to present to the world. nurses do ok & they don't need charity.

My wife's a nurse and any increase in pay packet would just end up in at the shops. Since most nurses are women, I'd say this is a plot to increase sales at the shops.

I say donate to the husbands of nurses. We are the ones who have to listen to stories of smelly vaginas, discharging pustibules, thier nurse humour, the fact they won't dress up in porn nurse uniforms, complaining of patients, bedpans and the like.

now you get to the root of my problem with nurses.

I've always found them very uncooperative about that issue.

Guest Eskimo-Boy

dont see why nurses in particular need to get money.... so i dont think the players specifically do need to pay up for this, although in saying that, it's a days wages and is a small ask of them, so i would pay it. But if they didn't want to i think that is fair enough

I'd go one better. Withdraw the vote from nurses and give husbands-of-nurses 2 votes.

Bollocks, nobody forced them to chose that career.
