I used to love them. They peaked with Achtung Baby (which still sounds awesome). I'm still gutted that I missed the Zoo TV tour.

Was never a major fan but saw them on their Joshua tour and live they were brilliant. Prefer the 80's stuff some of the 90's the rest has past me by really.

I also think their 80s and early 90s stuff was their best work but they still had a few excellent tracks after that time. I think 'Bad' and 'Electrical Storm' are two underrated tracks from two different eras.

Fantastic band, great lyrics. Totally up their own arses these days however and Bono is a cunt.

Excellent until mid 80s then largely shite with one or two exceptions. War was a fantastic album,but to go from that to the likes of 'The Sweetest Thing' shows how far their music has fallen.

Some of their music is really good. Some of their music is bang average. A little bit of their music is awful.

The earlier stuff is good, since the 90’s they have been very underwhelming.

 

Don’t really see them as a ‘band’ in the traditional sense anymore. More so a large money making machine these days.

 

Don’t get many young musicians looking up to them for their playing abilities, for example.

Keep meaning to watch a documentary my mate told me about called It Might Get Loud, with Jack White, Jimmy Page and, errrrr, The Edge talking about their respective playing/influences, etc.

 

Sounds quite shamelessly cringeworthy from the latter just to be sat there with them on such a premise.

It's pretty good that, well worth a watch if you're into that sort of thing.

 

I'm no U2 fan (I won't be particularly explicit given this is the U2 thread) but I can kinda see why they went with him rather than another 'bluesy' guitarist.

Yeah, even without having watched it I can definitely see what you mean, and thought similar when he told me about it.

They're not great musicians as individuals, but the band is definitely greater than the sum of its parts.

Neither Jack White or The Edge are great guitarists in the way that Jimmy Page is, however both have very original styles. From that point of view I would say The Edge would have as much right as Jack White to be there.

I saw Bill Bailey play some of The Edge solos in a live comedy performance once. The point he was trying to make was that they are all generally 3 chords.
