Good Italian Restaurants in Liverpool

I know someone started a thread on here a few weeks ago about good restaurants in Liverpool, but I can't find it with the search function, so I've had to make a new one.

 

Any of you guys have good experiences of going to Italian restaurants in Liverpool? If so, where was it?

Nearly every one I've been to has been a shitty, franchised grief-hole.

 

The very worst one was near St John's market and actually looked genuinely Italian, as did the staff. I had one of the worst meals of life in there.

If you fancy venturing out, there is a place in Crosby South Road 'Antonellis'

 

2 Minute walk from Waterloo Station. Which you can get to for £3 return from Liverpool Central.

Nope, the City Centre (or possibly Allerton/Wavertree area) are the only options we have.

I've been to the Jamie's Italian in Cardiff, it was lovely.

Buca Di Bacco over the road from the Debenhams entrance into Liverpool One is nice from what I remember, couple of years since I've been there.

San carlo is probably up there. Its a upmarket place some would say pretentious but I found it quite good. but my brother says shit service.

I've been to the one in Kingston. For that type of chain restaurant I don't think you can beat it. But it's always rammo in Liverpool.

Already mentioned both but I'll throw my tuppence worth in:

 

Buca di Bacco - Corner of Harrington & North John does the best pizza in town but is hardly ever open.

 

Il Forno - Duke Street is boss but the portions leave a bit to be desired - few years since I've been though.

The one I like is Casa Italia on Stanley Street. Cheap, tasty, huge portions and very Italian feel.

 

My least favourite is the Italian Kitchen in Queen's Square (shit pizzas)

Il Forno, Casa Italia and Piccolino are all good, although as Italian restaurants go I don't think any in Liverpool have ever really blown me away.

San Carlo's is the best italian in Liverpool. Huge selection and always a table full of fanny on a birthday in there which makes pleasant viewing.

As far as I'm aware this is the same policy throughout Oliver's Italians as they turn the tables extremely quickly.

 

A table for two having 3 courses can be fucked off in little over an hour.

Just had a search and it turns out there is one, which has recently been opened in Liverpool One. I'll just weigh up all the options and see which is the best.

 

In terms of bummage, it's a secret I'm not willing to tell the GF!

Bar Italia is muck. They excuse poor quality ingredients as 'traditional'- sound if you want crab sticks in the seafood dishes and offal in the lasagne and canneloni rather than proper beef.

 

San Carlo's food is nice but the service is amongst the worst in the city. Picolino's is much nicer as is Il Forno.

 

For cheap and cheerful but still decent quality I don't think you can go wrong with Casa Italia on Stanley Street.

Anyways, I've decided on the one in Liverpool One that Remmie has recommended (easier for her to get to than Il Forno, and read some other good reviews of it). Cheers for all the suggestions.
