Liverpool, Arsenal – Gael Clichy wants move to Liverpool, despite Roma interest | Give Me Football

Arsenal star Gael Clichy is favouring a move to Liverpool, despite interest from Serie A side Roma, according to The Times.

Liverpool have reportedly made an offer of £5 million for Clichy, but Arsenal are hoping for closer to £10 million for the star who’s contract expires with the Gunners next summer.

While Roma are ready to offer £7 million – and will sell Mirko Vucinic to fund the deal for Clichy – the Frenchman isn’t convinced that a move to Italy will be best for his career.

Arsene Wenger is reportedly hopeful that Clichy won’t go to Liverpool because they might rival Arsenal for trophies, but with the 25-year-old wanting to stay in England, Wenger may have to accept that the star will head to another club of Arsenal’s caliber.

While Clichy has continually told the press that he wants to stay with Arsenal, and that Liverpool rumours are without merit, his delaying in signing a contract for the Gunners is giving way to speculation that he may in fact be interested in heading to Merseyside.

Roma have flown to London today, according to reports, but Clichy is still hopeful that Liverpool will up their offer to Arsenal in order to take on the left-back and fill a gap that has been a long term problem at Anfield.

just make a fair bid for clichy and move on. 20 million for henderson and 5 million for clichy....it seems if clichy was english liverpool would bid 15 million. Just make the 10 million and move on...we know you have money

Alternatively why don't we move on if the player doesn't meet our valuation? It seems that Clichy is the one hanging on for a move to us and you're willing to sell to Roma at seven, so not even Arsenal think he's worth ten. I'm not sure whether I prefer Clichy or Enrique for a similar price, but I wouldn't pay over the odds for Clichy personally.

There's some fairly big differences between the two deals. Most importantly, Clichy has only a short time to run on his contract, whereas Henderson didn't. Clichy is will be 26 when the season starts, whereas Jordan celebrated his 21st a few days ago. Henderson wasn't actually 20m; according to those in the know it was 13m + add-ons. It kind of puts the 10m in perspective.

I think we should just bid 7 for him, rising to 8 or 8.5 if we make the CL or something. It might help get it sorted faster, and 1 - 1.5mil if we make the CL probably isn't going to bother us that much. If he can sort his defensive side out he could be brilliant for us in attack, especially linking up with Suarez.

We know Arsenal bottle it when it comes to the nitty gritty,so we will wait and throw a cheeky £5m bid in just before the transfer window shuts,Arsenal wont want to lose him next season for fuck all so their arse's will fall out and we will get our bargain.

A change of scene might do it but he's already at a big club.

Depends on your definition of 'big club', I guess. The way I see it, there's only two real big clubs in this country.

Sunderland have made an improved £10million bid for Ipswich striker Connor Wickham as they look to pip Liverpool to the teenager.

Wickham is keen on the move to Anfield but would not rule out going to the Stadium of Light as he is ambitious to play in the Premier League.

Sportsmail revealed last month that Sunderland were competing for Wickham, who is rated at £12million by Ipswich, and Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has made the 18-year-old his prime striker target for the summer.

Bruce has also been linked with Newcastle and Everton target Shane Long of Reading and Tottenham's Roman Pavlyuchenko but signing Wickham would be a major coup.

Sunderland’s offer is £8million up front with a further £2 million in add-ons depending on how successful he is on Wearside and whether he graduates to the England senior side.

Liverpool are weighing up a surprise £6.5m deal for Brest striker Nolan Roux.

The 23-year-old is heading to England for talks this week and reports in France say Anfield is his destination.

Liverpool are willing to match the release clause in the Frenchman's contract to see off competition from Marseille and Schalke 04.

@SiClancy Simon Clancy

I'm relaibly informed that Liverpool are showing an interest in Sheffield United's 18 year old striker Jordan Slew.

He's played 8 times for the Blades, scoring twice but is very highly thought of. Fulham recently failed with a £500,000 bid.

Slew has yet to sign a new deal at the club, hence increased interested from Premiership clubs.
