Emile Heskey Remember Him?

Barely ever see him mentioned on here. I used to be pissed off that Ged preferred him over Fowler (my favourite ever player) but he was the perfect foil for Owen and it can't be denied that him and Owen made a better partnership than Fowler and Owen. Very underrated player on this forum IMO.

I agree he was underrated. He did a lot of the donkey work that helped Owen score so many goals. He was at the time for how we played the ideal foil for Owen - and he had a few decent moments in terms of goal scoring himself. Scored 22 in that 3 cups winning season.

Had a couple of years here where he was just on fire and won a bagful of trophies;.  Always got a bad rap from Ingurlund fans, but fuck them; most of them support clubs where far worse players are hailed as "legends".

He was unplayable for a while & for that period, he is definitely hugely underrated, he did go right off the boil after that though & I think that tarnished his legacy with a lot of people.

2000-2002 he was unplayable at times. But once he started getting small knocks he really let them get in his head and he’d spend games sitting on the ground looking upset. Kewell-esque

Dont agree that he was underrated. He was very good at Leicester, and never really reached the same level here imo. Not saying he was poor, just that he never really looked like the quality you’d expect at Liverpool. Decent player, and worked quite well in the right setup.

My memory is shite, but I think there was a home game against United where he was particularly wasteful at the Kop end. 
 

I was still a regular match goer in those days and I remember thinking, as he missed another chance; “that’s it me and you are done”.

Was great for a couple of seasons but I remember being frustrated with him as it seemed he lost that early confidence & went on runs of not scoring much. Maybe his career is looked upon with more negativity than it should but it definitely went on a downward trajectory.

He's on record as saying he suffered from depression when he joined us and it makes sense now because he had all the attributes to be a beast of a player but he just didn't hit the heights he should have done. Used to frustrate me knowing that he could have been more than he ended up being in the game. Sad.

I remember a match report once describing Heskey ‘going through his usual repertoire of missed chances’. Was largely shockingly bad but seemed like a nice guy who sacrificed for the team.

Heskey was utter wank and made our lives miserable for years. Nice guy and everything but just - fucking - no. 

 

He had one good season and then spent the next years of his professional career basically falling over. 

 

One of the happiest weeks of my life was when Houllier and Heskey went in quick sucession.
