Well, that wasn't a great surprise. We've become a really stupid team, just thick. I don't think there was one period in the half when we looked like we'd find space with our passing beyond the halfway line. Virge is having one of his worst games. Trent has gone walkabout as though we're ten-nil up. Robbo, aside from the last ten minutes, has looked disinclined to do much other than pass backwards. Harvey not only loses the ball but then goes out of position in a bid to make up for it. 

 

We need someone in the centre of attack. We need to wake the hell up and start [pressing and passing quickly. And we need to be cute and get at their defenders.

 

Sky, by the way, just don't care how biased their coverage is - there must have been about 20 cuts to the Manc bench or boxes, for no real reason, and about one of ours. Utterly obsessed.

It does have an end of an era feel. Can’t keep going back to the well indefinitely - the signs have been there for some time, even last season - it was sheer force of will that saw us through, and you have to suspect the players have been hit mentally by the fact we’ve gone into the season with a much weaker squad.

This jogging along side the player with arms behind his back is doing my fucking head in its like I'm the best beat me if you can.

This whole system is based on the midfield working their bollocks off with intensity. We've got 2 OAP's in there and a kid in there and the rest of the options are in the hospital wing of Anfield as usual.

Better team in the second half of the first half. But, we can’t keep on coming out at the start of the game with such a lacklustre and lazy attitude. Which was largely evident in van Dijk’s worst 20 minutes in a Liverpool shirt. He was awful for the goal. Just get in the attackers face. He’s about 7 yards out. 
 

The danger is that United get air in their lungs and a second wind and that we start slowly again in the second half. I don’t know what we’ve done tactically with the full backs. They’ve gone from one of our most potent threats, whipping in crosses to playing far too narrow and trying to dink inch perfect passes into the forwards feet.
