A fish and chip shop owner who celebrated the death of Queen Elizabeth II by spraying champagne and dancing outside her shop was pelted with eggs by angry locals.

Jacki Pickett, the owner of Jaki Fish and Chip Shop in the village of Muir of Ord in the Scottish Highlands, shared a video of herself on Thursday holding a sign saying “Lizard Liz Dead” and “London Bridge has Fallen”.

Dancing excitedly at the news of the death of Her Majesty, she shouts: “London Bridge has fallen.” The woman behind the camera yells: “Fantastic” and Ms Pickett sprays the bottle and screams: “Lizard Liz is dead”.

After the footage quickly spread on Facebook, a crowd of 150 outraged residents descended on the shop, hurling eggs and sprayed the windows with ketchup.

Police were called and officers forced to close the business amid concerns for Ms Pickett’s safety.

As she drove away, accompanied by a police escort, the crowd “pelted” her car with stones and booed loudly, according to one witness.

David Mackay, a 27-year-old cobbler who lives in the village, drove to join the protest after being shown the video by his mother.

He told The Telegraph: “The comments on her Facebook page were disgusted and against her, quite rightly so. I heard that large crowds headed down to the chip shop and were protesting outside.

“I drove down myself to go and see what had happened. The streets were packed and the police were there. Jacki drove away with a police escort and her car was pelted with rocks and other objects.

“The police stayed for a while longer in case there was any further vandalism to the shop.”

Abuse aimed at the owner continued online, with people vowing to run her out of the town in the coming weeks, the Press and Journal newspaper reported.

Mr Mackay said he thought the video had given the village “a bad name”, adding: “You don’t have to be a royalist to show compassion and basic respect. It’s a life that’s been lost and I think everyone should have some decency.

“If you don’t like the Queen, keep your thoughts to yourself and don’t post any business-ending statuses on social media.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said on Friday: “Shortly after 8.30pm on Thursday, Sep 8, officers attended at a business in the Seaforth Road area of Muir of Ord following a report of a large crowd gathered in the area.

“Officers remained at the scene to ensure the safety of all present, and the group subsequently dispersed peacefully. No further police action has been required.”

The National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) said it had revoked Ms Pickett’s membership.

Andrew Crook, the organisation’s president, said that although “everyone is entitled to have an opinion” Ms Pickett’s video was in “extremely bad taste” and “completely against all of the values our organisation and industry hold dear”.

Mr Crook said: “We have discussed this as a board and have taken the decision to revoke the membership of this business owner and we will be writing to them and asking them to remove all association of the NFFF from her business, social media and websites.”

“She has spent much of her life building up that business and has destroyed it in the space of a day – it’s quite sad.”

Halfway through the audio book. It's been pretty entertaining so far. Obsessive fandom, jealousy, Twitter bullying, cancel culture, call-out culture, alt-right and SJWs, it's all in there. Plus the murders.

When you hear an organisation calling themselves something like "Free Speech Union", it's no surprise to hear that they're into shutting stuff down.

I mean who doesn’t want highly sexualised caricatures of women reading for kids?

I dont think men dressing up as women is always 'drag queens' that depends on context, pantomimes etc,but unless somebody is reading as a fairy tale character there is no real point at all other than 'look at me' attention seekers, which is what I think drag queens are and why I hate them.

Again with the "highly sexualised".

Haven't you got any DVDs of Mrs Brown's Boys to wank over?

Hi, is that the library?

Yes, how can I help?

Id like to come and read to the kids

Oh lovely, that’s brilliant.  Thanks.

Just one thing, I’ll be dressed as a woman.

Ok, why?

Because that’s my job

We have butchers reading to the kids and they don’t come in blood splattered aprons

Buts it’s my job

Ok, when you say ‘dressed like a woman’ do you mean jeans and t shirt or skirt and top?

Oh no, a complete caricature of a woman.  Skin tight, sequins, complete over the top make up and wig.

How will this help the kids by the way?

oh it won’t. But I’m stunning and brave.

Nobody's asking you to like it. Just please stop lying about this "highly sexualised" rubbish. It makes you sound like one of the Patriotic Alternative knuckle-draggers who have picked drag queen story hour as their latest target.

After being read Little Red Riding Hood, human drag queens are probably too bland for the kids.

Denying the evidence of your eyes is not my problem.
