As a political message it just translates as "Labour is the party of high taxes".

Like Stig says, if you want to do the right thing and you're honest about it, even if it's popular you'll still get crucified.

Our political system is fucked.

John McDonnell himself said Labour only started doing better in the polls in 2017 during purdah because the press had to rein it in.

The Owen Jones's of this world know this of course, which is why I find much of the current brouhaha and ballyhoo dissengenuous.

Then blame the messenger for not getting the message through. We can't let that stop us, it's our turn to frame things. The Tories are discredited. Yet people seem to still  be bending over backwards to protect extreme wealth.  Why?

A. Labour are almost certain to win the next election.

B. The could bring in a fairer tax system if they desired. Nothing is stopping them.

It's a political choice they are choosing not to take which would not only be popular but would transform the country for the better within one term.

Tatchell is right  That money could deliver a fully funded up to date health service, fix our schools and transport system and eradicate child poverty. All  within one term. The results would sprout fruit for decades to come. Plus the guarenteed increased growth would put billions into the treasury for years to come for future investments. It would totally transform the country.

As put in a link a few posts up  Even three quarters of the wealthy understand it needs to be done.

I'll give you a point for shoehorning Owen Jones into another post. Half a point for McDonnell. I'll have to take half a point back unfortunately as you forgot to mention the jam man of Islington.

As for disingenuous. This was Labours number 1 pledge not so long ago  Some people have been consistent. Others have not. As you know the pledge below is hardly a new policy for the Labour Party.

Gordon Brown, once again having a little dig at current Labour Policy. Front page of the Guardian. He needs to be careful, if he keeps stating left wing ideas he'll find himself being slaughtered in every political thread. Can't have lefty ideas.  Might even gain himself a new thread,  the Trotsky terror.

In seriousness, sticking to the content instead of derailing with jibes on personale, he's right. He's 100% right.

Edit, on the same subjects, on sure start and helping poor people, as someone mentioned John McDonnell

He's right as well.

Article for you to consider. Make of it what you will but the last two paragraphs imo stuff your argument.

Imo, Good article for you to consider on the point you raised. I've sent one to Angry but I know from ten years debating him in the EU thread he probably won't open it. Although he'll then still tell then me I'm wrong

Why specifically her? Plenty of people have?

Because she's also a Labour MP, and because she's not of the Starmer wing of the party. Just to head off the implication that it was anything new and/or exclusive to Labour centrists.

Well, I don't agree. Unfortunately the millions of people who read that organ also have the vote, and quite a lot of them even vote Labour. It's not unreasonable for a politician to try to appeal to them.

Corbyn wrote for the Sun too, before he became leader.

And from Tony Benn's diaries:

"Well I don't want to be known as a Sun columnist. But I wouldn't mind writing occasionally...because you are getting through to a working-class audience that is potentially Thatcherite but should be socialist".

Cunts.

Journo from the economist taking the piss out of Labours selection procedures. He's got a point.

In a similar vain here's Margaret Hodge gleefully suggesting freedom of speech may cost you dear in the modern day Labour Party.

Excellent article this by Richard Murphy in todays Guardian, although slightly spoiled by Reevrs talking a load of tripe in the insert vid. A number of small changes to make the tax system fairer could transform the country for the better. If Reeves and Starmer choose to safeguard the wealthy and refuse to act in the best interests of the country I predict things may turn sour fairly quickly. People want the Tories gone but they also want change. Its time the rich paid their fair share.

Agreed, it's all over now.

What with Angie's 10 year old domestic situation and big H's impropriety it looks like the Tories have finally found their attack lines for the upcoming election.

On a serious note the Tories have been putting a lot of effort into finding stuff to smear with and if all they have is Rayner had a complicated living situation with a guy she had a kid in her teens with they really are done.
