Women's World Cup

The US has two -- they each have their own collective bargaining agreements. They do have shared sponsors

What is the problem then? The women's team should get what their association has generated, why do they constantly bring up how much the men are earning, if they are in the separate associations?

@SasaS The countries can do whatever they want, and some are closing the gap. I think this year the womens team in the US is basically equal  (there is one big difference - womens team members have a base salary whereas mens team members only get paid for appearances).

That said they can never address the prize money which is where the real imbalance is -- that is up to FIFA.

The total purse for the mens World Cup is something like 500 million - this year the total purse for the women was 60 million.

Fake news - it's not equal, which is why the women are suing.

Members of the U.S. women’s team are also suing U.S. Soccer, their employer, for paying them less than the men’s team.

I believe that is the lawsuit which was brought in 2016 by four current members, plus Hope Solo being turned into a class action suit - the figures there are all from pre 2017, there is a new CBA which went into effect after that.

Players on the women’s team earn a base salary and are eligible for performance-based bonuses, whereas men only earn bonuses. The teams also play different numbers of games in a year. And if they make the World Cup, a separate bonus structure applies.

A a new collective bargaining agreement with US Soccer in 2017 closed the pay gap for non-tournament play somewhat: Under the new agreement, a women’s player would earn $28,333 less than a men’s player in a 20-game-winning scenario, compared with $164,320 less under the old contract.

No, that's more fake news.  All you need to do is click on the link - the lawsuit was filed on 8th March 2019.

Please check your facts and stop spreading untruths.  People might actually believe you.

Because they get paid less for doing the same job as the men.

According to Howie, they are not doing the same job as men, they are playing football, for a different association.

Women that are doing the same job as men are working in same companies or other organizations as men, generating the same revenue. They are not in separate, less successful  women only organizations, where there is much easier to get a job because they are only competing with a much smaller number of other women.

So why are you saying it was from 2016?  It was filed in 2019.

Fake.  News.

Because it is the lawsuit that was brought by a few individual players (Morgan, Lloyd, Rapinoe and Sauerbrun) in 2016 that is now being turned into a class action lawsuit to include all the players.

That being the case, why are you claiming that their pay is equal?  Why would they continue to sue if their pay was equal?

For me? A couple reasons.

One - it is an opportunity to make a statement. They are still probably only getting 90% in the current wage structure. The feeling is the womens team should actually earn more as they are far more successful. They are interested in making that argument. I think they also feel this is the time to shed some light on the difference in the purses that FIFA provide, which are massive.

Two - they are looking to get the same spending outside of matchday salaries - that is airplane travel, accommodations, training facilities, per diems, etc.

Well - this is kind of true -- both teams operate under the USSF umbrella, but each have their own collective bargaining agreement.

Oh, so they're just doing it for a laugh and chanting "equal pay" for a laugh.
