Aqualini. Considering his treatment his attitude and performance were spot on. The reverse ball he played for Torres's second goal was sublime.

Maxi. Showed both vision and movement on and off the ball.

Torres.

Normally would expect to get motm after scoring a brace. Looking sharp again and his second goal was well taken.

Special mention to Pepe Reina who had little to do yet pulled off a wonderful save and his pass to Babel in the second half was just World class.

Aquilani

Torres

Babel/Maxi

Cant split the third place.

On a night of many positives, i cant help feeling a little unsure on theCarra/Agger partership. Portsmouth poor as they were, easily created too many chances, by simply lobbing the ball behind out centre halfs. Especially in the first I thought Daniel looked like an accident waiting to happen.

Against the mancs we need them both to be at their best!

Still, the most important thing was that it was a really enjoyable match to watch, for the first time in ages. Yes Pompey was rubbish, but we`ve faced worse teams this season playing totally withouth movement in the attacking third and without any creativity whatsoever. Maxi is not very quick, but he can run as fast with the ball at his feet as without it, and I like his direct running at the opposition defence.

Hopefully we can build on this.

1. Aquilani - Got a goal and an assist and was always looking for the ball. His quick passing and constant movement made us tick and I believe he was by far the most important factor in our transformation. It's hard not to think that we could be in a much better position, had we played him more.

2. Torres - Well, the lad is just world class even though he can do better than yesterday. Got two goals and were only denied a hattrick by the post. His attitude was much improved as well.

3. Babel - The enigma strikes back. Once more Ryan emerges from the doldrums and looked like the player we thought we signed. Pacy, powerful and with decent technique and great shooting to go with it. Took his goal superbly and had another brilliant shot saved by a deflection and the bar. Again it's hard not to think if only... He should get the next 3-4 games from the start in the same position to build up confidence. There IS a player in there, just a very insecure one.

Honorable mentions to Maxi who was very, very good in the first half and Pepe Reina who can thank his defenders for not letting him keep a clean sheet.

I can't understand what you think Gerrard did right.

Aquilani

Maxi

Torres

He made us tick with those little balls round the box. He was darting around. I looked at him objectively, which I have found difficult to do of late with his moping round.

He played very well, and was the catalyst for neat interplay.
