Fans and Parry United.

FANS' GROUPS JOIN PARRY IN HICKS BLAST

By Paul Walker, PA Sport

Liverpool fans' groups have criticised co-owner Tom Hicks' latest attack on the way the club is run as "destabilising" ahead of next week's Champions League semi-final.

The club has been plunged into civil war as the boardroom power battle rages on, with Hicks, his estranged partner George Gillett, chief executive Rick Parry and manager Rafael Benitez all involved.

Hicks demanded Parry's resignation in a letter last week, and went public in his condemnation of the chief executive's decade of control at the weekend.

On Thursday, Hicks launched another attack on Parry. He called Parry's reign "disastrous," and claims he will soon be able to buy out Gillett and have the money to fund the new stadium and finance Benitez's summer spending.

But fans' groups are angry at the timing of Hicks' latest attack, with Neil Atkinson - chairman of the Spirit of Shankly group set up to fight the Americans' ownership - insisting: "We have a European Cup semi-final coming up in a few days time and this is a terrible time to do what he has done.

"He thinks he can rattle out this sort of stuff and leave everyone to get on with it. Rather than be silent and stay in the background over the next four or five weeks.

"He had one big go in the week between the Arsenal semi-final and the Hillsborough memorial service.

"There were huge numbers of supporters grieving for loved ones. It was a time to be respectful and understand what this football club is all about.

"But Mr Hicks seems to have no respect for anyone. He didn't say anything on the day of the service, but straight afterwards he is up and running again.

"Tom Hicks has got no respect for football or this club. The man cannot be trusted at all. He said there would be no debt on the club, but that is not what has happened.

"The situation with Rick Parry is really an irrelevance. He is good for one thing only, and that is his vote at board meetings to keep Hicks at bay.

"Apart from that, it looks as if whoever ends up owning the club, be it Hicks or DIC, Rick Parry probably won't be in a job any more."

Les Lawson, spokesman for the Liverpool supporters' club, believes that nothing Hicks has said will change the view the fans have of him.

He said: "We've seen what Hicks has said and we still want him out. For all this to come out again as we are about to play Chelsea in the Champions League semi-final has angered the fans more."

Hicks, speaking on Sky Sports News, again criticised Parry and warned Gillett that the stalemate over the club's future will continue until he agrees to sell his stake.

"Look at what's happened under Rick's leadership. It has been a disaster," he said. "We have fallen so far behind the other leading clubs.

"We should have the stadium built three or four years ago. We have two or three major sponsors when we should have 12 or 15 and we are not doing anything in Asia.

"We have still got the top brand in the world of football but that's no good if you don't know how to commercialise it.

"Rick needs to resign from Liverpool FC. He has put his heart into it but it is time for a change."

Hicks admitted his relationship with Gillett is now "unworkable".

"We started this as friends but 50-50 is a difficult business proposition because you cannot do anything without your partner's approval.

"If George doesn't sell - because I am not going to sell - I guess we stay in this position that we are in.

"I am planning to make him a very attractive offer. If I had a majority on it (ownership of Liverpool) I could put more capital in.

"My goal is to take all the debt off the club except the working capital needed and get the permanent financing totally in place for the stadium."

Hicks insisted that Dubai International Capital - who have been trying to buy out both Americans - "do not have a seat at the table".

DIC believe Hicks is running into a financial brick wall in the knowledge there is "no appetite" in the City of London for his plans.

A source said: "DIC will not rest until they own Liverpool Football Club. However long it takes."

DIC also made it clear that Benitez's position - he has two years of his contract still to run - is safe if they do eventually take over, and that he will be given funds to spend in the transfer market.

Parry has the support of Gillett - who says he will not sell his stake to Hicks - and a majority in his favour among the six-man board.

Parry told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "It's for the board to ask me to resign - and they haven't.

"It is clear that this is a matter for the board. I'm accountable to the board and this is not something the board has discussed with me.

"There's a Liverpool way which I will stick to and clearly there's a different way.

"I think I have a responsibility, indeed a duty, at the moment to try to keep things on an even keel when there's a degree of turmoil off the pitch.

"I just want to do my best for the club. The club will survive, we've got a Champions League semi-final coming up, there are a lot of important things to be done at the club."

In a later interview with Sky Sports News, Parry branded Hicks' outburst a "side-show" and added: "There needs to be a resolution between the owners but in the mean time we're focusing on trying to run the club."

Who is Ganesh? Is he that bloke with the Elephant mask? Joke obviously..

Navbasi has reasons for not wanting DIC. Muslim's owning the club will be a nightmare for him the poor lamb.... he would rather Hicks... what a joker.

I'm assuming the lamb you are talking about is Halal?

FTR - I don't have a problem with Muslims owing the club just as I don't have muslims playing for the club. The fact that I think they are dirty inbreeding fuckers has nothing to do with the ownership issue...

"DIC won't rest until they own the club and Rafa's job is safe".

Strangely enough, I don't see that quote in the article. In fact, I don't see a quote anywhere in that article that says Benitez' job is safe, just the paper saying that that it's clear that Benitez' job is safe with DIC (Seriously Rashid, if there is a QUOTE from a DIC rep, that says Benitez' job is safe, please PM me the link to the article, because that's one of the reasons I don't trust them).

I'm tired of people trying to make one party look better than another is this debacle. No one looks like a good option. This is no less evil in this situation. As far as I can tell, we're fucked no matter which way we go.

1) DIC need to seriously shut the fuck up. They have no part of this club, and they are in no way helping our situation with all their paper talk.

2) Tom Hicks needs to shut the fuck up. The more things he claims he would do for this club, the more he looks like a liar. Quit telling us what your going to do, tell us how. It's obvious he has no friends in this, so who is he talking to, us? Fat chance fat boy, you've burnt that bridge.

3) Rick Parry needs to shut the fuck up. He's picked a hell of a time to grow a pair. There is no way that I believe he has at any point cared about doing right by our club. He's not trying to help the club, he still trying to help himself.

4) George Gillett needs to shut the fuck up. Why on earth do you get into this, if you didn't have any money to begin with? Why on Earth did you open your big gob in Edmonton in the first place. What do you stand to gain from joining with DIC? Answer those questions for me Georgie boy, because for all your talking, you haven't said a damn thing.

5) David Moores, I wish you were a moderately intelligent man.

I'm tired of this shit.

You have found yourself a partner who loves Hicks too have you? Did you have a wank when you woke up to your hero?

Joker.

How many people's ball sack are you going to lift in one day?

If I could explain it to you in Urdu I would because you seem to have a problem with me writing my posts in English... but I will "TRY" and simplify it AGAIN..

1. Do not want Hick in charge

2. Ideal solution would be new owners - DIC and Rafa in charge.

3. However, I do not want Rafa gone, if it means in the SHORT TERM Hicks being here and Rafa still in charge then I would go with that.

4. For ME it is imparitive that whatever happens Rafa is allowed to manage and given the backing in the summer.

Feel free to PM me as maybe meeting up might be the only solution.

You are also a but thick if you think Hicks staying short term is a solution? You really actually think he would let go medium to long term before he has bled is dry?

You want him him, whether that is is short or long term it doesn't matter.

That's muslimist!

I don't mind the odd joke, but it's the intent behind it that does my head. In a few posts he has asked to meet, had a go at Muslims and the rest. His name sounds Sikh but he might not be one. All rather laughable really.

Won't be long till DIC are in, he will probably support someone else then.

DIC are been quiet for a reason, at the moment they are keeping out of the argument between the two americans and once that is resolved they will then make their next move.

When DIC first became interested in Liverpool i think Rafa may well have lost his job but over this last year DIC have witnessed what has happened regarding how popular Rafa so will back him if they took over.

And so it goes on...

Liverpool civil war 'erupted when Parry blocked plans to put club in debt' | the Daily Mail

The Liverpool crisis was sparked by chief executive Rick Parry's refusal to allow £245million of the American co-owners' debt to be loaded on to the club, it has been claimed.

Parry and former chairman David Moores, who both remained board members following the takeover by Tom Hicks and George Gillett, blocked an attempt to tie the debt to Liverpool.

The sum in question was the £185million loan the Americans took out to buy the club in February last year and the £60m existing debt on Liverpool's books at the time of the takeover.

Hicks and Gillett promised at the time the debt would not be loaded onto the club and, as part of the takeover deal, agreed that any attempt to do so would have to be ratified by every single board member.

Towards the end of last year, when Hicks and Gillett were negotiating a refinancing deal with the Royal Bank of Scotland, they proposed to the six-man board — made up of themselves, their two sons, Parry and Moores — that the £245million debt should be tied to the club.

Parry and Moores both refused, and when the refinancing arrangement was announced in January, the £245million was tied to Hicks and Gillett's company Kop Football (Holdings).

The pair's stance enraged Hicks in particular and started the Texan on the course that has led to him falling out with Gillett, labelling Parry “a disaster” and calling on the chief executive to quit.

A source close to the club said: “That was the trigger. Hicks needed every board member and not just a majority to agree but Rick and David Moores stood up to him.”

One of the things Hicks mentions is the potential of the Asian market. Do we have any Asia based fans on the Forums who might be able to start some sort of boycott of Liverpool merchandise? Are there foreign language Liverpool sites where the fans side of the story (rather than Hick's half-arsed PR machine) could be spread? I realise it would be a huge huge task but even a banner at a pre-season tournament would help.

This got me thinking Cath.... Surely there are fans here that could moderate a foreign language discussion forum on Dave's site. The more I think of it, ignoring the huge international fan base we have strikes me as a "Parryesque" failure on Daves part, to capitalise on the numbers he could be attracting to his site.

I think the increased interweb traffic would help keep informed or even educate people from further afield about the shite that is going on with our club. It could even create more advertising potential which might help make the site even more profitable.

Why not contact some Asian supporters clubs?

Just don't get this view point at all. If they want the club they're eventually going to have to dig deep, regardless of the relationship between the Americans. Why wait?

Bot of straw clutching going on as far as DIC are concerned. It sounds like they're beaten and have scuttled off to lick their wounds, chipping in with the odd hollow statement.
