I think it includes expenditure and isn't truly indicative of profit. Abramovich's millions have catapulted Chelsea up the list but they haven't made a profit at all, in fact, if the £140 million or so Roman propped them up with, last season, was removed, they would be near Everton. Everton overspent last season and that over spend is reflected in them being in the top 20. The figures are turnover, not profit. I think that's right, Tim might be able to clear it up.

Rushian and Tim - How does Juve make so much money on their gates?

 

Juventus, Milan and Inter all have their own deals with TV companies for showing their domestic matches in Italy meaning that they get over half of the total pot of money spent by TV in Italy. They make at least twice what we and the Mancs and Arsenal get from the collective agreement with Sky. The same happens in Spain with Real and Barca. The revenue they earn from fans attending the match is minute in comparison with England. They look on enviously at the fact that fans are willing to shell out £30+ for tickets over here.

That's spot on YKI, so it means fuck all in the grand scheme of things. Lazio, Roma, Everton, Celtic, Manchester City and Chelsea all feature, but all have huge debts, so they have to maximise their incomes to fund those debts. It doesn't mean that they're in a strong position because they feature in this list.

The list is indeed based on turnover which isn't really a good indicator. Then again picking anything in isolation doesn't really give a good indication. What they should really do is, and probably have done, a complete analysis of the finances in general. Debt to equity ratio, interest cover, cashflow from operating activities etc. It would provide a more comprehensive look at how well the clubs are being run financially.

 

Rashid, your question confuses me a little. Do you mean how can they get so much in gate receipts (and if so what makes you think they get alot?) or do you mean how can they get so much money despite generally having low attendances?

Tim - What they really should do is fiddle the numbers somehow, because the European Champions and Englands most successful club should not be behind Chelsea or Bayern Munich in the turnover stakes for last year.

It's not based on profit, just income.

 

Wyness was trundled out by the Today programme on Radio 4 this morning, as na expert?!! :D :D :D :D :D When asked if it was a mistake for Utd to sell Beckham to Real, he replied that on these figures it was. Hmmmm, so if that is true, then it must have been a fucking disaster for you to sell Rooney to Utd you tit.

 

Of course, in reality if the players won't sign a new contract you're screwed anyway. Some expert.

Tim - how does the Chelsea revenue break down?The other total revenue figures didn't surprise me but their's did a bit.

 

I think the figures include the amount of money Abramovich used from his own funds. Though I am not entirely certain and my name isn't Tim.
